Behind him, a woman carrying a sniper rifle puts her hand on his exposed arm and asks if he’s all right. Horokaida nods to Ein, and the two survivors head in my direction while everyone else stops to look.
“No f*****g way,” Onaem mutters while staring at them in awe.
Just when Sergeant Kusinon reaches me, he turns toward them and asks the other sergeants, “How did they survive the blast? Have they been back there this whole time?”
As Vladik regains consciousness, Sergeant Bach helps him get to his feet. “What happened?” Vladik asks, but Bach ignores him and just points at them instead, whispering, “More survivors. They weren’t supposed to make it.”
Onaem’s the first to approach them. He walks up to Horokaida, extends his hand expectantly, and says, “Give me your bag.”
