The wedding

Gevanni’s POV The night air outside her mansion smelled like rain and roses. When Rita opened the door, she looked like a storm in human form. Calm on the surface, chaos underneath. She dismissed her staff the moment I stepped in. That told me two things. she trusted no one, and she didn’t want witnesses. “Nice place,” I said, letting my gaze sweep across the marble foyer, the chandelier. “Not bad for a woman plotting revenge.” She didn’t rise to the bait, just turned toward the living room where a stack of papers waited beside two glasses of wine. “Sit,” she said. “Let’s get this over with.” I dropped onto the couch opposite her, watching the way she moved. “Straight to business,” I murmured. “I like that.” “This,” she said, pointing to the papers, “is our marriage agreement. We marry publicly. You attend events. Smile for the cameras. Be the perfect husband. In return, I pay you generously.” I tilted my head. “How generously?” “Enough for you to disappear after a year.” I smiled faintly. “Disappearing isn’t really my style.” She crossed her legs, and for a second, I forgot what we were discussing. She had the kind of control that made men want to lose theirs. “Then name your price,” she said. “I already told you,” I said. “I’m not interested in your money.” Her gaze sharpened. “Then what do you want?” I leaned forward, elbows on my knees. “Something much better.” She waited, eyes fixed on me, but I wasn’t ready to tell her yet not until I decided how far I’d go with her. “I’m still thinking,” I said at last, leaning back. “Gevanni, I don’t have time for your games. Let me know what your price is once you’ve decided.” She slid the document toward me. “Sign it.” So I did. One stroke of ink, one agreement that would change both our lives. Before I left, I leaned in close enough and whispered.“Careful, Miss Grant,Revenge has a funny way of turning.” Then I walked out but not before I caught her reflection in the window. She looked like she wanted to throw the glass of wine at me. Or pull me back in. *************** Gevanni’s POV The morning of my wedding started with the sound of my laptop keys clattering and not with champagne or tuxedo fittings like it should have. My eyes burned from hours of no sleep, the blue light reflecting off the files open across my screen. I wasn’t looking at wedding vows or guest lists ,I was tracing someone. Someone who shouldn’t have vanished this easily. “Come on,” I muttered, fingers flying faster over the keyboard. The trace kept breaking. Every lead looped back to a ghost IP. Whoever i was hunting knew how to hide. But not from me. No one ever really does. The phone on my desk buzzed for the fifth time in less than ten minutes. Rita. I ignored it. Again. And again. Her name kept flashing until I finally groaned and grabbed the phone. “Where the hell are you?” her voice burst through before I could even speak. “Gevanni, it’s our wedding day. You’re supposed to be here by now!” I leaned back, rubbing the back of my neck. “I know. I’m on my way.” “You said that an hour ago.” “Trust me, it’ll be worth it,” I said, eyes fixed on the screen as the tracker suddenly blinked , a signal spike. There you are. The line on my laptop screen turned green, locking onto a secure address. I exhaled. “Got you.” I copied the encrypted coordinates and shut the laptop with a snap. No time to dig deeper now. I had a bride waiting , an angry one. By the time I arrived at the hall, the place was buzzing. Cameras. Flowers. Music. Everything screamed perfect ,except for Rita, who looked like she was about to murder someone. Her eyes found me instantly the moment I stepped through the doorway, tux half-done, hair slightly tousled. “You’re late,” she said through gritted teeth, her smile still fixed for the guests. I stopped in front of her, adjusted my tie, and murmured just low enough for her to hear, “You look stunning. Almost makes being yelled at worth it.” Her glare could cut glass. “I should kill you right now.” “Not before we say ‘I do,’ sweetheart.” The priest cleared his throat behind us, signaling for the ceremony to start. Rita forced a breath, straightened her posture, and walked beside me down the aisle. As we stood there on the alter, surrounded by guests who had no idea what kind of mess this was , I couldn’t help but look at her. She looked Beautiful and Dangerous. When the priest asked the question, I didn’t hesitate. “I do.” The words came out calm and deliberate ,but in my head, they meant more than the crowd would ever guess. Because this wedding wasn’t just a union. It was a move. And I never made a move without a reason. ************ Later I sat in her library that night, cigar glowing faintly between my fingers, the house too quiet for newlyweds. She came in,her heels silent on the rug. “Can I ask you a question?” she said. I smirked. “Do you want to?” She crossed her arms. “On a scale of one to twenty ,one being a failure, twenty being amazing ,how would you rate our kiss at the altar today?” The cigar paused halfway to my lips. “Did you like it?” I asked. Her expression didn’t flinch. “Did I, though?” I leaned forward, amused. “Fine. Seven.” She blinked. “Seven? Out of twenty? Wow. I mean, it was fake, so” “Yeah,” I said, smiling. “Fake.” She glared. “You are impossible.” “Have you met you?” I countered. She moved closer , too close and whispered, “I want to kill you right now.” “No one’s stopping you.”i muttered, moving closer. Then finally our mouth met, first in a hard, hungry kiss that tasted of smoke and adrenaline,She tugged my shirt off, slowly, and i let it go,Then she gently laid on her back.
