I help lower La-la into a chair at a table in the back of the bar, shaking my head at her for the countless time this evening. “Don’t look at me like that,” she scowls at me as she wiggles, searching for a more comfortable position. “It’s Valentine’s Day and I wanted to go out. Pretty soon, I’m not going to be able to get out of the house as easily and the doctor said it would be fine. Everything else was booked, and I love Ben’s band.”
Ash joins us with a beer for him and I, and a sprite for La-la, looking at her like he’s not entirely sure this was a good idea either. She just glares at him and he sits without a word. The pregnant lady gets what the pregnant lady wants.
La-la slides her eyes back to me and smiles. “I’m glad you dyed your hair again,” she tells me. “It’s cute.”
