17 - Never Left

The drive started to look and feel familiar as we headed north.

"When even did things get moved into the closet?" I asked.

"We visited a few times while you were at school" Paxton stated.

"Your mother told us you could only sleep upstairs" Liam added "so we were making sure our scent stuck around to make you comfortable".

"And sometimes brought things to just make it comfortable" Paxton finished.

I recognised we were driving towards the field they had agreed to buy before they left.

"You came together?" I asked and they both laughed gently.

"We've stayed together" they stated in unison "here, in the valley".

I furrowed my brows in a frown and sat silent.

"Lux?" Liam asked.

"You were here the whole time?" I asked " just, like, ignoring me"

"We've been around, just giving you space like you wanted" Paxton stated.

"But not really-" I started and Liam cut me off.

"Baby, you don't get it, it's not just a normal mate bond for us" he sighed "the royal bloodline is so because we are of the first wolves, we are lycan, we can shift as full wolf or partial, we do not age as usual, we are essentially indestructible-" he stopped short and we all fell silent for a moment.

"Except, when we find our mate" Paxton finished "the person that completes our soul, being apart from them weakens us, we become lesser".

"Our mate bond cannot just be severed, being apart weakens us because if someone's wishes to break the bond, one must die" Liam stated sighing.

"Or two... in our case" Paxton stated.

"Oh... so you need me" I muttered "you don't necessarily want me, you need me"

Paxton pulled over and both men turned to look at me furious.

"Who ever said we don't want you?" Liam asked frowning, his voice a cold harsh whisper.

"Just... if we weren't mates, you wouldn't- we wouldn't... be like this" I stated quietly.

"I'd be trying to taste you anyway" Paxton laughed and Liam shoved him.

"Lux, we have waited for you, wanted you for decades. Since before you existed. You were made perfectly for us. Even if we felt no bond... You. Are. Perfect. For. Us" Liam stated.

"Maybe not when you were this young" Paxton laughed and reached out to touch me when I started grumbling at him. I sighed instantly, relaxing "you feel it too, when we touch you feel that tingling calm. That is because we were always supposed to belong as one" he stated.

"Do you love me?" I asked quietly.

"Every day" they replied in unison.

I sighed sitting back. "Am I broken?" I asked and both of them reached to put a hand on me.

"No Lux. Not even a little." Liam stated.

"Why don't I get it?" I sighed "I don't understand anything and it's supposed to just be... natural".

"Sweetheart, nothing here has been... smooth" Paxton said quietly pulling back onto the road.

We drove along quietly for a while before we pulled up at what used to be the meadow and I climbed from the car except instead of my beautiful wild meadow I stood now, in front of a three winged, three storey partially completed house, a small hotel really. It was a light grey weatherboard with a white roof and a huge wrap around porch.

"What is this?" I asked quietly walking towards the front steps and climbing them slowly.

"This is our house" Paxton stated taking hold of my hand.

"But my meadow" I whispered.

"Come see!" Liam stated excitedly grabbing my other hand and hurrying me through the front doors. I froze with my mouth agape staring straight ahead. It looked nothing like I expected, the front of the house was so clean cut and perfectly planned; a symmetrical facade, perfectly manicured yard, crisp colour scheme and contained feel. Through the front door it became apparent the backyard, aside from a small pool straight ahead was wild and untouched... and completely visible through an entire back wall of glass. It took several minutes for my thoughts to gather in my head and me to realise the house was clearly still under construction but I was standing in a wide open double storey living room with a seriously massive open kitchen to my left and a 16 seat dining room to my right.

I walked straight through the lounge room to the back wall which opened up right in front of me automatically and I froze stepping back to see the two huge glass panels slide back into place.

"This place is not kid friendly" I stated quietly looking around back at the 2 huge sectionals facing each other either side of a coffee table and the big double front doors where Paxton and Liam still stood watching me. I'd never seen anything like this.

"We can make it kid friendly" Liam laughed softly. "We will".

"We hope" Paxton added.

As he said it a small lady came out from a door in the kitchen and as I peered in it was clear that beyond the door was a small supermarkets worth of food.

"How many people do you plan to feed?" I chuckled and the lady looked up before opening a double sliding door at the back of the kitchen to a dining hall for clearly intended for more like 40 people.

"The royal guards wing. My queen" she stated.

"We have a small staff, a lot have moved their families to places in town but that side is essentially packhouse" Liam stated.

"This side" Paxton drew my attention to the front of the dining room where their were more double sliding doors. "This is ours" I walked through the doors to a huge open lower level with nothing but a wide staircase standing in the very centre dividing the room.

"We were thinking a lounge this side and maybe kids rooms on the other side. There's a big bathroom under the staircase" I held a hand up to silence Liam.

This space was easily 40 feet long and wide the staircase alone wide enough that I could lay across it without touching the glass encasing it. I moved to look at the bathroom opening a sliding door under the staircase. The light wooden floors transitioned to light grey tiles and I froze at the size of the bathroom. There were linens to my left under the stairs and to my right a double vanity, double glass doors to double shower heads and a big bath further back against the glass wall overlooking the meadow.

"Get used to things in double" Paxton stated.

"We're only just learning how to share" Liam laughed "still mostly want things to ourselves".

"What's upstairs?" I asked turned to face them.

"Home" Liam said.

"Hopefully" Paxton added.

I left the bathroom and headed upstairs, they said nothing but I could tell they were following me. The staircase led to an open central space with big double doors to my right and three doors to the left.

"Our offices-" Paxton started pointing to the three doors.

"No," I stated "those are the kids rooms. You can work downstairs" I pushed through the double doors and directly opposite, through a small sitting room was another staircase to double doors. To the right was a wall covered in bookshelves with openings either side through to another space, to the left I could see was a walk through wardrobe to the bathroom with a large bath right in the middle clearly visible from both armchairs.

I turned right and went through one of the openings towards the glass back wall. On the back of the bookcase wall facing the window was a bed that was so big I'd be able to lie across it twice diagonally.

"Are you planning to share this room with me all the time?" I asked.

"We are, we can always sleep on couches or in the packhouse or upstairs" Paxton answered.

"What is up there?" I asked.

"Maybe not yet my love" Liam smiled softly at me.

"Why?" I asked.

"It's just a bit much" Paxton smiled at me.

I climbed onto the bed and moved into the middle of it gazing into the backyard.

"Can I show you something else lycans can do with their mates?" Liam ask looking at me, concern clear on his face.

"Is it s*x?" I chuckled and instantly Liam let out this deep chest rattling Pur. I felt a warmth spread through me melting all of my anxiety away. I crawled towards him to nuzzle his chest but he stopped.

"Careful, she seemed to like that a bit too much" Paxton reached out to touch my face.

"Why is that bad?" I asked

"Because you'll do anything we want" Liam smiled down at me.

"We won't even have to ask. You'll just know through the bond, it strengthens deeper each time we do it" Paxton sat on the bed next to me and Liam flopped down as well.
