chapter 4

"I, Lucy, reject you Alpha Thorne as my mate."  Alpha Thorne jerked his head up, a flicker of panic crossing his eyes before the agony of rejection swept through his entire being.  His wolf spirit howled in anguish within him.  The ward door swung open abruptly as Selena swayed her hips into the room.  "Alpha Thorne," she cooed, tugging at his arm. "She has already rejected you. What are you still fretting about? The Moon Goddess's power has been transferred successfully anyway."  Alpha Thorne's brow furrowed slightly, seemingly displeased by Selena's interruption, though he did not shake off her hand.  Selena, seeing this, grew even more smug. She turned to look at me, her eyes brimming with contempt.  "Lucy, you really are lucky to be alive, not having perished on the altar."  "Still, it's just as well. A cub born to a lowly Omega like you will surely be as weak and useless as you are. Its very existence is a waste of resources."  Each word felt like a sharp wolf's claw, piercing my already shattered heart.  My temples throbbed violently as memories of the cub's final struggles within me resurfaced.  I fixed my gaze on Selena's smug face, consumed by a single thought: Pain. Make her feel pain!  Crack! The moonstone in the room shattered violently, sending shards hurtling towards Selena's face.  Sharp shards sliced through her meticulously maintained features, blood gushing forth instantly.  Selena let out a piercing scream as Alpha Thorne frantically shielded her.  "What have you done?" Alpha Thorne stared at me in shock, as if realising something.  In the chaos, a letter slipped from Selena's pocket, landing precisely beside my bed.  My wolf spirit told me something was amiss, so I picked up the letter to examine it.  It was a mission completion report.  "The matter has been settled. The escort for Lucy's parents was ambushed by the Rogue pack as planned. Not a single survivor."  The letter detailed how that familiar Gamma guard had been surrounded by the Rogue pack, their blood staining the forest red.  Father! Mother! My world shattered in an instant.  So the Bloodmoon Pack not only coveted my Moon Goddess power, but also sought to silence every soul who might know of it!  I leapt from the bed like a madman, ignoring the searing pain as my wounds tore open, lunging at Alpha Thorne.  "I'll kill you! Kill you all!" I snarled, my vision red with fury.  Alpha Thorne recoiled in horror, scrambling backwards, while Selena shrieked and slammed her hand down on the alarm on the table.  Two Betas burst into the room, pinning me back onto the bed. My wounds burst open again, blood gushing forth.  Agony and fury clouded my senses, yet I felt a burning heat in my eyes as liquid slid down my cheeks.  I raised my hand to touch it—blood tears, falling from my eyes.  I fixed Alpha Thorne and Selena with a steady gaze, my voice low yet unmistakably clear:  "Alpha Thorne, Selena, the blood debt owed to my cub, to my parents—I shall make the entire Bloodmoon Pack pay a thousandfold, ten thousandfold!"  My curse terrified them.  Alpha Thorne treated it as a major threat. Soon, four Betas were stationed outside my hospital room, rotating day and night.  They administered a potent sedative, strong enough to incapacitate a full-grown werewolf.  Lying in the hospital bed, my eyes were hollow, as if the drugs had destroyed my soul.  Alpha Thorne visited me daily.  "Lucy, feeling any better?" His voice was low, tinged with concern, yet his eyes scanned my entire body with sharp vigilance, as if verifying whether the drugs had subdued me sufficiently.  I feigned compliance, lifting the corners of my mouth in a faint smile, hoping to lull him into complacency.  "Much better," I murmured softly, my voice weak yet gentle. "I'm sorry I got so worked up that day..."  His tense body relaxed momentarily before he added, "Selena's facial wounds refuse to heal. They've begun to fester and inflame. Even the finest healers are at a loss."  He studied me with a probing gaze, doubting whether my curse had truly taken effect.  In that moment, a twisted sense of satisfaction surged within me—the power of misfortune had indeed taken effect!  Yet my expression remained one of shock and concern.  "Is that true? Is she all right? I... I didn't mean to..." Tears welled in my eyes, my voice trembling, as if I genuinely felt pity for the woman who had killed my cub.  Alpha Thorne's brow furrowed slightly, hesitating whether to believe me.
