Chapter 2: Gamer #47

1706 Words
Ivan's POV  Fisting on the ground, frustrated, I got into my car and slammed on the break. The GPS blinked at 41st street which was around 7 minutes from here; if things don't complicate that is. This time, however, I felt low. My eyes were blurred and I dashed around wildly; giving no care of the world. What if I die? Will my friends be pulled out of the game?   'If you lose, your friends and assets will stay with Dark World forever as its rightful resources'   My eyes widened as my heart twitched realizing the deep s**t I pulled on myself and others.   This meant just one thing--   Suddenly, my eyes spotted a truck speeding towards me that was inches away from hitting me. My jaw dropped and I accelerated to the fullest; the car propelled fast and got out of my control. While I was trying to stabilize it, a lady appeared out of nowhere and got hit.   *thud*   Even though I slammed on the breaks, it was a bit late. She was run over… By me!   I sat still in my seat; heart sinking and pounding at the same time. I was blank!   What just happened? Did I really?   Oh no, no, no, no… Please god!   Shaking severely, I prayed for her to be okay but dared not get down and check on her. A voice in my head hoped she was another of the extras from GTA. That… if I step out, her body will be gone.   Regardless, tears simmered in my eyes when the system came back to life.   *electronic jingle* '50 points recovered!  Current resources at hand- Gun, A knife and a rope.'   I shivered as it all became clear… Those were her items!   Could it mean that I… I… killed her?   Breaking down, I stepped out of my car. My chest was burdened with guilt as I still clung to the hope that she was alright.    However, when I got down and looked, I fell on the ground as my wobbling legs gave away. Oh f*****g god, what did I do…   Covering my mouth, I screamed seeing her dead. Her eyes were staring past at me; confused and shocked.   It was the most ugly feeling I felt. Then my eyes trailed down to her wrist that had a label on it. It was a badge.   "Lilly Salve; 23. Gamer #47"   Gasping, I reached for her badge and took it with me. For some reason, I wanted to avenge her death. Despite it being due to me, I was angry at this f*****g stupid game.   *1 minute left*   Rubbing my eyes, I pulled her up and put her in the car before I resumed driving. We were close and I couldn't shake off this feeling that she was blaming me.   As the countdown began, I parked at the marked spot on 41st Street.   *Electronic Jingles* 'Task completed. Look for further clues'   I slumped in my seat as I placed both hands on my face and cried.   Why, why, why!   *knock**knock*   I jumped in my seat when someone knocked on my car window. Swear to god, I was never this scared before.   As I glanced up, my heart raced and I was quick to open the damned car door and clung on to the boy standing with fearful eyes. “Kavin!”   Muttering his name, I couldn’t help but sigh fighting off the tears that made me vulnerable. He was quick to embrace me, keeping me close tightly. “I… I… killed someone…” This was choking me. However, Kavin pushed me away to get a look at my face. He was flabbergasted; it was an understatement while I stuttered. Unable to make eye contact with him, I pushed his hands off my shoulder and turned around; hiding the shame that was killing me.   “No, Ivan… Shut up!” He scoffed; ever so lightly. But I knew… I was right.   “You don’t get it Kavin, I actually did that. She… She’s in my car right now.” I broke down and could feel him go stiff; without glancing at him.   A moment later, he opened the backdoor and staggered, falling backwards. I had no strength to hold him in place while he rubbed his face in disbelief.   “It… was unintentional. I… w-was trying to escape a truck when I slammed on the accelerator; my car flew forward and she appeared out of nowhere. Despite me trying to… to… slam on the breaks; she was… ru-run over, Kavin… She was… run over…” My silent cries turned to sobs.   Kavin pulled me into him as I fell on my knees, tearing up. This was all my fault.   “Hey, hey, hey, Ivan… Stop it. Okay? You didn’t mean it. This was an accident; keep that in your mind. So, stop blaming yourself.” He caressed my hair but I was hardly listening to him.   Kavin was being nice because we’re friends. How can I forget what happened, though?   “Can you help? In… bu-burying her… respectfully?” I meekly asked Kavin to which he pulled my face up and patted my cheek.   He gave a small smile and pulled me up, patting my back next.   “Where to?” He asked and I wiped my face as much as I could from the sleeves of my shirt.   I shrugged, then decided to go to the nearest cemetery. However, while we were about to, Kavin huffed.   *Electronic Jingles* ‘Player 2: Kavin Mathew joined the team for Task 2’   “What?” Alarmed, I glanced around.   “What’s the clue here at 41st street?” He mumbled, clearly irked up and I slammed my head on the wheel.   Suddenly, he exclaimed.   “There… something highlighted.” Kavin muttered and I quickly revved up the engine to check where he pointed.   As we approached the place we spotted a backpack which Kavin hurriedly picked up. I smacked his head giving him a ‘are-you-nuts’ look.   “Fucker what we’re supposed to do then?” He shouted, rubbing the place where I hit him.   “But what if it’s something else?” I asked and he scoffed. “Like what?” He glared and rummaged through the bag’s content.   When he did that, he hissed, throwing the bag away. Kavin pushed me back and we saw the bag disappear while an ugly looking lizard appeared out of nowhere. It has its foresight on us and wags its tail around.    “What the f**k is that thing?” Kavin muttered and I pushed him back while fumbling with my pockets.    There was a gun somewhere, wasn't it?   ‘Tool selected and retrieved.   The next instance, I felt a gun in my pocket which I pulled out but regretted immediately. It belonged to… her.   My throat tightened as I recalled how I ran over that girl who might be on her way to complete some task. I was so burdened with guilt that I hardly noticed that Lizardy thing jumped towards us.   The ugliest thing about it was it’s almost roasted skin. Also, it had human eyes that ran a shiver down our spine. I was pulled out of my trance when Kavin nudged me in my sides.   “Focus you dumbhead!” He shouted and I stumbled with it.   The Lizard was on Kavin who had his hands around mine; a lame attempt to hold the gun in place.   Instantly, he was shoved down on the ground with a loud thud and bit Kavin’s arm; earning a loud scream from him. Scared as hell, I shot blindly at it.   The next minute, I fell on the ground on my bums; too scared to even glance. I hope I hadn’t killed Kavin too.   To my surprise and utter dismay, there was a complete silence surrounding me. Afraid, I slowly opened my eyes and screamed when the Lizard fell close to me. Crawling back, I kicked it aimlessly in vain. Not wanting to be dirtied by it.   There was a deep hole in it; remnants of its mass clots and blood spread around us. My eyes landed on Kavin and bulged when I saw his bloodied body.   “Oh, s**t!” I was about to faint as my heart literally stopped working when I heard him groan.   “f**k! It’s disgusting!” He complained.   Eventually, making my heart drop in relief. I don’t know how I feel anymore about this. Killing things on screen was a different thing; the thrill, the fight and flight experience was favorable but in reality it was nothing like that. I deeply hated it.   “You are reckless as hell. But man, look what I got.” Kavin’s voice was bringing me back to conscience which I was starting to lose.   “What?” I cared less.   “Look at it yourself.” He seemed happy and I actually complied.   I couldn’t believe what I saw.   There was a Gem and a few gold bars that he held. It shone brightly; so bright that it managed to ease my nerves a bit.   Wow!   *Electronic Jingle* Task 2 completed. Total coins- 14010; Gem collected-1. Task 3 begins   “Will it ever rest?” I sighed exhausted and saw Kavin sympathetically glance at me.   I was finally able to lay down with no thoughts disturbing until…   “Arghhh! IVANNN!”   Sitting upright, I glanced at Kavin and went breathless.   No, no, no… You got to be kidding!   I ran towards him, accidentally stepping on the mass clots and slipping in the ridiculous mess. While, I wanted to puke; a bit of Kavin’s glimpse imprinted in my head. Rolling to my side, screaming to get the mess off me; I puked my heart out. My head heart and I felt weak. Kavin’s scream was loud but seemed to dissolve. The throbbing pain in my stomach and head seemed to mess with it. However, my vision started to blur.   It was only now when I heard the system go once again.   *Hahaha… This is the Punishment I talked about earlier, Game Slayer. So, it’s just getting more interesting. All the best!*   “IVAAAANNNNN!”   “NOOOoooo…”   Everything turned black…
