I had finished showering, scrubbing my skin until it was raw, as if I could wash away the events of the evening. The scent of the expensive perfume I had worn for the party swirled down the drain, replaced by the scent of my own soap, but the anxiety remained clinging to me like a second skin. I changed into a set of soft, worn loungewear, but it offered no comfort. My mind was racing, hitting a million miles an hour. I knew exactly why Eric had asked me to meet him in his study.
