The taxi pulled up at the entrance with only a few minutes to spare before I’d be considered late. I didn’t want my record to start with a black mark on day one.
I walked in with my head held high. I had to meet my supervisor for my first debriefing and task assignments. My onboarding email had instructed me that the Compliance Department was on the fourth floor; that was where I’d find my new team.
As the elevator climbed, I felt ecstatic. Every floor we passed made my heart palpitate with anticipation. I wonder what they’ll be like? I asked myself as I stepped out into the hallway.
I walked toward the main workspace and pushed open the heavy doors, only to be met by a dozen curious, cold stares.
“Hi,” I said, looking around. “Could someone tell me where the supervisor’s office is?”
