Keid Sphere—Somewhere Else on the Equatorial Band Eight humanoid felines curled up in nests near the top of several large trees in a forest by a creek separated from the humanoid simians by two oceans and a continent. The air was hot and smokey, making breathing difficult. Fire trailed across the ground, consuming underbrush and lapping at tree trunks. The felines watched the progress of the brush fires warily, ready to flee if the fires threatened their nests.
