Chapter ElevenKeid Sphere—Somewhere on the Equatorial Band
Five creatures huddled in a tight circle on the wet ground in a small clearing, munching on pieces of their last kill. The sun was shutting down, and rain fell, soaking their fur. They were cold and miserable. Meat from the small, deer-like animal they had killed was stringy and tough, but it was nourishment they craved, a welcome addition to the berries, leaves, and roots that comprised the rest of their diet.
The creatures were about 1.5 meters tall and walked upright, although they dropped to their knuckles when running. Their faces were humanoid, with flattened nose, protruding jaw, and round, intelligent eyes. Ears sat low on both sides of their heads. They had five digits with opposing thumbs on hand and foo
