Distinctive dorsal scars have been observed in human subjects in the field numerous times over recent years, although individuals bearing those scars have proven to be elusive research subjects. None has yet been subjected to the investigative protocols of the Institute, thus the cause of these scars remains unknown. There is no plausible physiological reason for such a mark, the sole explanation being bilateral cancerous growths—few believe that they could or would develop in such a balanced fashion, particularly in multiple subjects.
