Later I learned that this was a rocket, indicating the beginning of the one minute countdown—at the time, I thought it was a falling star. Then suddenly, the entire world was illuminated with a brilliant light, whiter and brighter than anything I had ever seen before. Later, there was the sound of the explosion and the mushroom cloud, but I never forgot that blinding white light. It was as if the sun had fallen to earth—no, it was as if earth had been touched with the fire of the angels.”
