I stood up and started pacing back and forth. I needed to think. Where the hell was Dante? I looked around the room for my clothes. I needed to find my cell phone. I needed to call Dante. He was probably going crazy not knowing where the hell I was.
"What are you looking for?" Marcus asked, reaching for my hand.
"My phone," I told him as I turned away from him to search. "I need to call Dante."
"Who is Dante and why are you so worried about calling him?" Marcus asked, getting up and helping me look. There were covers and clothes everywhere, along with empty pizza boxes and empty bottles of liquor. What the hell happened in this room last night, and why can't I remember any of it?
"Found it," he said, smiling, holding my phone up so I could see it. I reached for it but he pulled it away. "Who is Dante?" he asked again.
"My bodyguard," I told him, holding my hand out for my phone.
"Why do you need to call your bodyguard?" he asked, holding my phone closer to him.
"Because he's probably going nuts right now," I told him. "Please, I need to call him before he contacts my father and tells him I'm missing." I didn't think he would hand it over, so I was surprised when he held it out to me.
"Thank you," I said, taking it. s**t it's dead. "Do you have a charger? It's dead." I was starting to panic again.
Marcus didn't say anything as he walked out of the room. I was about to ask him where he was going when we walked back in with a charger in his hands.
"Thank you," I said, taking it from him and plugging it into the light on the night stand. It would take a few minutes before I would be able to use it. "I need to get back to New York today, as soon as possible."
"That won't be a problem. I can fly you back this afternoon. I have some business I need to take care of here first, but then I can have the jet fly us back as soon as I'm finished.
"The jet?" I asked, surprised.
"Yes, my personal jet," he said, smiling at me. "Are you impressed that I have my own jet?"
"Not really," I told him, not wanting to lie to him. Having a personal jet was not a big deal in my world. My family had our own jet too, but I can't use it. I can't take the risk of my father finding out where I am right now. I saw Marcus's face drop and I felt bad. I know he wanted to impress me, but he would need to do more than that to impress someone like me, but I didn't want to add salt to the wound and tell him that. So I changed the subject.
"Do you live in New York?"
"No, I had business there," he told me as my phone lit up. It has enough charge to turn on.
"Where do you live then?" I asked as I waited for my phone to boot up.
"I move around. I have a few different places I move around to depending on business and where I'm needed," he told me as he slipped on a pair of black sweatpants.
My phone turned on and immediately started dinging. s**t I had 856 missed calls, and even more missed text messages. I didn't check any of the missed calls or texts. I went right to my contacts and pulled up Dante's info and hit the call button. He answered on the first ring.
"ATHENA!!!! WHERE THE f**k ARE YOU?" Dante yelled into the phone. "THE GIRLS SAID YOU LEFT WITH SOME RANDOM GUY!" he continued to yell at me.
"DANTE!" I yelled into the phone to get his attention. "I'm okay," I said, taking a deep breath.
"I have been covering for you, but your father wants you at the estate by 6pm tonight. You're having dinner with the Stollie family," he said, sounding a little calmer and exhausted.
"I'm in Vegas."
"WHAT THE f**k ARE YOU DOING IN VEGAS?" he yelled.
"It's a long story," I told him, blowing out a long breath. "But I'm flying home today. Dante, I have a bigger problem," I said, closing my eyes.
"What is it?" he asked, sounding anxious.
"I'm married," I whispered into the phone, not wanting to say the words out loud that would make them too real.
"That's not funny Thena," he said in a flat voice.
"I'm not joking," I told him as I sat down on the bed, turning my back to Marcus. He had been watching me the whole time I was on the phone.
"Your serious?" Dante asked, surprised.
"As a heart attack," I told him with no humor in my voice.
"I'll make a few calls, I have a few favors I can call in. I might be able to find a lawyer to draw up divorce papers without your father finding out," he told me.
"That might be a problem," I told him, peaking over my shoulder to look at Marcus, who was standing behind me with his huge arms crossed against his chiseled naked chest. Focus Athena.
"What do you mean? What's the problem?"
Marcus moved to stand beside me and held out his hand to me. I looked down at it, not sure what he wanted.
"Let me talk to him," he said impatiently, still holding out his hand to me. I looked at him, then down at his hand, then back up to him. I wasn't sure what to do. I finally gave in and handed him my phone.
"Good girl," he said with a sexy smirk before he put the phone to his ear.
"Hello, this is Marcus and to whom am I speaking with?" he asked confidently.
"This is Dante." I heard Dante answer.
"Hello Dante. I am Athena's husband and, as I understand it, you are her personal guard."
"Yes, that is correct." Dante answered.
"I'm looking forward to meeting you and going over your security plans to keep my wife safe. I will also be adding some of my own men to your security detail. I hope that won't be an issue."
"That's going to be an issue."
"My wife's safety is my top priority. I will cut no corners when it comes to her safety."
"Mr. Marcus,. I appreciate the offer, but my security team is more than capable of keeping Athena safe. Your men are not needed. Besides, her safety will not be your concern for long. I'll have the divorce papers drawn up and ready for you to sign when you both arrive in New York today," I heard Dante say.
"Ah well, that is where you would be mistaken. I am not divorcing my wife ever, so you can just get that out of your head right now. My men Will be added to your security detail. In case you have forgotten, Athena would not be my wife if your men were able to keep her safe. She was under your security team's protection, but I was able to get her on a plane and fly all the way to Las Vegas without you having any idea where she was. My men joining your security team is not up for debate."
"I'm going to just take a guess here that you don't have a clue who the woman is that you're married to. Because if you did, you would realize who you were speaking to."
"I don't give a f**k who I'm speaking to. There is not a being alive on this plant that scares me. I am not divorcing my wife and my men will be assigned to protect her. Your men can either work with them or stay the f**k out of the way so they can do their job," Marcus growled.
"Mr. Malnetty will never agree to let just anyone marry his daughter. Her engagement has already been decided. She will be marrying into the Stollie family."
"I don't give a f**k about her arranged engagement. She is already married to me and that is how it's going to stay. I will kill anyone who tries to take her from me," Marcus growled.
"I really hope you mean that because a war is heading your way if you continue to refuse a divorce. I hope your men can keep Athena safe. Please put Athena back on the phone."
Marcus never took his eyes off me as he pulled the phone away from his ear and handed it to me. My hand shook a little as I took it from his hand. He had to have noticed, but he didn't say anything.
"I'm here," I said as I put the phone up to my ear, not taking my eyes off Marcus.
"You know I'll stand behind you no matter what you decide. I'm leaving this up to you. You know the war that will take place between the families. Is this marriage worth the fight? If you think it is, I'll go to war with you and stand beside you and fight until my last breath." Dante let out a deep breath before continuing. "But you need to be 100 percent sure, because once that box is opened there is no going back. Are you 100 percent sure that you want this marriage? That he is the man you want to spend the rest of your life with. The man that you can trust, and who will without a doubt be able to keep you safe? You know who your family is, you also know the number of enemies that would do anything to infiltrate into your family. Are you 100 percent sure he can be trusted? There can not be a single sliver of doubt. Unfortunately, you don't have a lot of time to make a decision. You have until you get back to New York to decide what you want to do."
"I don't need time to decide. I'm not getting divorced."
