Chapter Seventeen I sat on Jonathan’s bed cross-legged, explaining to him what had happened. I omitted any mention of Marius, or of Abraham’s concerns regarding his own identity. None of that was my business, and I didn’t know or understand nearly enough to tattletale. All I told Jonathan was that Abraham and I had fought, which ended with him forcing me out of the room and closing the door on me. Jonathan listened to the whole story from the floor, where he knelt by my knees, staring up at me with wide, disbelieving eyes like a child drinking in a bedtime tale.
