|Maximus’ POV| “Alpha, have you checked the news?” Fabiano’s urgent voice alerted me. I heaved out while trying to think about what could make him sound so urgent. “What news?” I rasped, my feet moving at a gracious speed as my brain tried to figure out what was happening. I hated being oblivious to what was going on. Maybe that is why my wolf was kind of restless. “Your shares are being transferred to your brother’s company and I feel like your wife has a hand in all of these. By the way, where is your ring? I know you and your stepbrother have similar rings, but I know your ring and that is exactly what I am seeing in your brother’s finger.” He reported, my feet halted while I raised my left hand to confirm if what he said was true. I gritted my teeth when I met with an empty ring finger, the ruby metal that has always weighed my fingers down could no longer be found there, but I didn’t panic, not a bit yet. “Hey Sweetheart, how are you doing? Did you see my ring…? I have been looking for it all day and I do not doubt that it is definitely with you.” My voice filtered into the phone the moment I got inside the car, only a very few people would know that I was faking the emotion, unfortunately, my mate doesn’t and I didn’t have the conscience to tell her that she would practically be spending her whole life with a robot. “I am not your sweetheart, and I know you have already figured out what happened and are just calling for confirmation….. You are too smart not to figure that out and your mistake was trusting me, because if you had not done that and pretended that you loved me so much by deceiving me, I would be with you instead of your brother. Guess what I figured out, even the moon goddess makes mistakes and she would not blame me for choosing a better man out there, which happened to my mate’s stepbrother.” She voiced out, even the dumbest person in the world could realize how spiteful she was, after hearing a click on the other side, I smirked, but it was an emotionless one. “What do we do boss?” Fabiano fired immediately I lifted the phone to my head, inquiring to know the outcome of what transpired between that lady and me. “I don’t know, she gave me a reason why she did it, but it wasn’t logical, and it made no sense to me because even a daft person wouldn’t do such a thing, but I have a reasonable reason why she might have behaved that way. Raphael plays very dirty, and I wouldn’t put it past him to manipulate her or have a witch do it so he could get what he wants.” I pointed out, and the stunned silence and the little gasp my sensitive ears picked up made me realize that my last sentence was the most I had said in one breath. “Alpha, I hate to break it to you, but not everyone thinks logically as you do, and your mate looks extremely capable of doing that without being compelled, now that I think of it, I heard a colleague gossiping about your wife and your step-brother coming out of a restaurant together,” He admitted, but that was the least of my worries right now. “How bad is the situation on the ground? Is it redeemable?” I moved past the previous questions as it wasn’t rational for me to dwell on what had happened. “It looks too bad, he framed the company and now all the shareholders have withdrawn their shares, claiming you are not a reliable person and all. So we are practically left with nothing than a building filled with workers that are hoping this is not the end of their career.” Fabiano informed me. I gritted my teeth at the unfortunate report and incident. Something in me sparked after hearing that, I know I can still manipulate people to do what I want and that is exactly what I plan on doing. “Hi Max, it is your favorite brother in the world. I hope you liked my surprise, even if I know you don’t have feelings, I am sure this one got a reaction from you because you were not expecting it. Imagine winning a chess game with the opponent’s best player.” I comprehended the text message displayed on my screen. I could picture the triumphant grin on his face but it didn’t irk me because I caused this for myself. I have had a lot of opportunities to kill him, but I spared his life because I felt like he just needed to get his head straight and realize the fact that we are not competitors, but that was a mistake on my path, and it has cost me the company I built from scratch. “Don’t you think you are forgetting something? Why are you not rejecting that b***h yet?” My Lycan gritted out, irritated and grumpy as f**k, his emotions and anger seeped into my head, causing a migraine to hit me with full force. “Because I am very sure she would do it herself,” I replied to him as a matter of fact, I itched to see for myself the damage my step-brother had done with my mate but I think it would be better to wait till I sort out the workers. “What is your next step, what do you plan on doing Alpha, because you have nothing left? No pack members to control. No company to look after, I suggest you take up the previous offer.” He reminded me of the offer I got from the Shadow Circle that is involved in eliminating Alphas who are out of control and too desperate for power. “I don’t know about that yet,” I said curtly. “But you know you are the best in position for it and this is an opportunity since they would be paying you, you can use that to build up an empire, that is like the best solution and who knows if you might be allowed to kill that desperate son of a bitch.” He convinced me further, and my lips pursed as I linked the driver to take me to Ryan Law Firm and Enterprises. “You know I don’t need any reason to kill him if I want to, by the way, I see no cogent reason why I should kill them if they didn’t do any wrong to me.” I vocalized, flexing my fingers while I snaked them around my throat, tugging the piece of clothing that was a minute from choking me to death. “I know it is not rational, but you just have to take it up as a profession. I also know it is hard working under people, but you have to do something and this is the best solution you have. I know several ways of killing me are going through your head right now, but you won’t because even if it is hard to admit, I know I am the only one who has a soft spot in your life right now.” He boasted, and I narrowed my eyes while putting on a ghost smile, knowing that he was right about that, but that doesn’t mean I can’t kill him. “Don’t take me for a nice person, of all people, you know I don’t have a heart if I want to eliminate my mate right now, I would do it without remorse because she deserves it, so if I deem you fit to die with a plausible reason, I would do it. Don’t go ahead of yourself.” I warned, the sharp intake of breath made me know that I hit a soft spot. “Ouch, and I thought I was special to you, I guess I am only loved by my niece.” He sulked, I rolled my eyes before hanging up since he had nothing better to say. “We are here Alpha.” He informed me, my eye twitched at the title he called me, reminding me of the unfortunate incident that had happened. As much as I was trying not to blame her for what she did, and putting the blame on myself, I knew Celeste would not ever do such a thing to me, maybe this is my punishment for divorcing her suddenly with no explanation. “This is not the time to remember how much of an asshole you have been, we have better things to do.” My Lycan snapped me out of the conversation….. Raising my head, I was met with the architectural masterpiece that stands tall and proud, with its sleek windows reflecting the sunlight and giving it a modern touch. As I entered the building, I was welcomed by the intricate carvings of the building and a lot of fearful employees, a smirk crept on my face while still maintaining a blank expression, and a dark part of me yipped happily at the pungent smell of fear that reeked from the workers. “To what do I owe a special visit from you? You should have informed me before coming, I would have thrown a welcome party.” Ryan chuckled sarcastically, I didn’t need to raise my head to realize that he was standing on the top floor since his eyes were drilling boreholes in my head. “I had no intention of coming here, so save your welcome party for someone who actually needs it. I need your assistance.” I mind linked him immediately. I stepped into the elevator, cutting off all his attempts to make an unnecessary friendship. “Always going straight to business. What makes you think I would render any assistance to you?” He retorted. I tightened my lips together while thinking of the best answer to give him. “You know I don’t ask for assistance, and when I do, I bring up a condition that you will never be able to reject. I am not the kind of person who would come to you empty-handed,” I replied calmly, watching as the elevator dinged, revealing his ugly face, which was the last thing I wanted to see today. “Okay. Let’s hear what you have to say.” He shrugged, gesturing for me to follow him into his office. “I don’t have much time to spend here. I need you to offer my workers a place to stay in your office. I am sure there are still vacancies that you can fill. Not to brag, but I have the best set of workers, which means you would hardly lose a case to any other firm, so you would be collaborating with my employees, but that is not the best part. The best part is I would help you find any evidence you need against your opponent. Do we have a deal?” I asked even though I knew my offer was one he would not let go, a collaboration was what he had been asking for, and now it was offered to him. “Deal, that sounds too much of a temptation for me to reject.” He clasped my hands in his. “Alpha, you are not going to believe what I just saw now. I sent an email attachment, check it out.” Fabiano’s panicked voice filtered into my mind, and for the second time in my life, I displayed a visible reaction.
