Chapter 3

Don Bruno ’s Pov I internally sighed in relief as she agreed to sign the documents, urging her to go ahead. I stared at her lip that tweaked as she signed and her brows that furrow before relaxing. I must say, she was beautiful but I knew I shouldn't develop any feelings for her or risk making her my weakness. I dialed Sofia after she finished signing and immediately, she picked up. I instructed her to come to my study. “Sofia, take her to get some clothes and a makeover,” I ordered. “Okay Don,” Sofia asked her to tag along and they almost left but I had to stop her. “Sofia!” “Yes Don?” She peeped from the threshold of the door. “Don't cut her hair,” Sofia nodded and I smiled. She had the perfect length of hair I liked; long brown hair. “Really?” Lucía got my attention. “What is it, Lucía?” I asked as I pushed her off my thigh, pretending to get back to work. “You're clearly beginning to fall for her. What the f**k Bruno!” “I don't remember owing you an explanation Lucía and how many times will I warn you not to walk in when I'm having a meeting?” I suddenly remembered she shouldn't be here. “Besides, why are you here?” “Well, Pedro told me you were depressed over our breakup and I came to check on you but I never thought you would begin to catch feelings for someone else so fast.” Fuck Pedro! I should put a gun down his throat. Lucía was my woman, my ride or die. When I told her about my plans on getting a contract wife, she broke up with me, not even giving me the chance to explain. She took the next flight out to Miami with some other dude which broke me. She knew the reason behind my getting a contract wife. I intended to just send the wife off once I achieved it and then marry Lucía. But no… Lucía was not even patient enough to hear me out. She went off like she always does whenever we have a fight but now… I'm certain I don't want her anymore. I was done with all her childishness. “As you can see, I'm perfectly fine, Lucía, you can take your leave.” “Alright, baby. I'll just go home and prepare rumchata cupcakes. And then when you get home, I'm going to give you the best s*x ever and…” “I doubt you understand what I mean, Lucía.” I turned on my chair to face her, giving her my full attention. “Leave and never return, go back to that cabrona you were with. I never want to see you again and if you make me repeat myself, you'll not live to see another day.” She burst into hypocritical tears as the door swung open, revealing my step brother and one of my boys that was trying to stop him from entering. “It's alright. Just get rid of this,” I pointed at Lucía who was dragged out of my study. As always, Gael strud in and made himself comfortable, irritating me. I had already warned him about visiting me without an invite but he wouldn't get it into his thick skull. “What do you want, Gael?” I didn't have time for his stunt, so I headed straight to the point. “I see your w***e is back. Did she tell you I was the one she went to Miami with? Oh, her virgina was sweet and at my beck and call.” I stared at him blankly. Rubbing my forehead at how tiring he was sounding, I asked, “Is that why you are here?” He was shocked. He must have expected me to lose it but I already knew about their Miami rendezvous. At first, it taunted me to think my lover… my ex lover would go be with my enemy but it was the last straw, making me resolve to never take her back when she comes back, unlike other times. “Well, I came to see how you are preparing,” he eventually said after recovering from the shock. “You know, about Abuelo's declaration on who will take over,” he added, waving his hands with a smirk. “How do you think?” “Well, not bad… Clearly you're doing nothing about it,” he laughed as I maintained my calm demeanor. “You see, words on the street are that he's going to make me his heir… I just got him the Beijing deal.” My eyes almost popped but something in me told me he was bluffing. I was already in talks with Wang and he agreed to sign with me. “Are you done?” “Don't tell me you don't believe me.” As if on cue, I received a message from Wang, stating that he'd be going with Gael on the deal. Gael saw my calmness slowly dissipate and he burst into a fit of laughter. “Well, see you tomorrow when I'll be announced as the new cartel Lord.” He walked out, excitedly. I instantly knew I needed to do something. In my case, getting the Beijing deal or any other deal was not going to satisfy Abuelo. Only bringing a responsible wife home was his desire for me. I was known to be the typical playboy, flirting with several women until I met Lucía whom I fell for but she was loose. She was the typical w***e meant for the streets but I loved her regardless, making Abuelo angry. In an attempt to get me married to a responsible woman, he created this requirement if I was to inherit the business. It was already evening by now. I walked out of my study, deciding that it was time to meet Abuelo with my soon to be wife. It was time to take what was rightfully mine, instead of giving it up to the son of a mistress that caused my mother's life. “Is she ready?” I asked Sofia as she exited the room I reserved for Miranda. “Yes, Don. She’s just using the restroom. She will be out soon.” “Thank you, Sofia” She nodded and left. I busied myself with my phone to while away time. I knew Abuela would be glad to have me come over so I didn't bother to tell her we were coming. I simply waited and… waited. It was already 20 minutes later and Miranda was not coming out. I stomped into her bedroom and into the restroom to see it empty. I looked at the window and noticed it was open, then it ticked in my head, she had run away. I called on my boys and we started the search all over the mansion and beyond. I knew she couldn't have gone far but I was somewhat scared she might get missing or worse, devoured by some animal in the forest. I kept on going into the forest outside my house when I saw movements. “Miranda?” I muttered to myself but she heard it and began running fastly, “Miranda, stop!” I shouted but she kept running. She stumbled on a log and fell on her butt, wincing in pain, making me rush to her side. I dragged her up, then, we headed to the maron where I pushed her inside her room, pacing back and forth. “I… I am sorry,” she stuttered “I… I…” “Do you know what could have happened to you?” I asked. I caught myself slowly falling for her and I knew it was an emotion I had to get rid of. “I'm sorry, please…” “You think you can run away from me?” I walked up to her, fuming about what she could have caused me; my ownership of the cartel business. Choking her, I warned, “Try this next time and I'll kill your sick mother.” I stormed out of the room, ordering Sofia to prepare her for our visit. I knew I was harsh on her but I had no time for her stunts. She was just my ticket to being the next drug Lord and going forward, I intend to treat her as such. “She's ready, Don.” Sofia's voice caught my attention as I raised up my head to see a perfectly dressed Miranda. I nodded and led her to the Mercedes waiting outside and in no time, we were in front of Abuelo's. “Better act right. You know what's at stake,” I said, referring to her sick mother. I went to her side of the car and opened the door. I was stunned by her switch, she immediately started acting sweet. “Let's go, baby,” she said, entangling her hands in mine, smiling. “Oh, my baby! You didn't tell me you were coming,” Abuela greeted, hugging me in a strong embrace and I smiled widely. She was the sweetest woman I had ever seen. Sometimes I wondered how she was coping with a strong headed and cold man like Abuelo. “Who's this damsel?” Abuela added, staring at Miranda and I’s intertwined hands. As I opened my mouth to answer, I heard his voice. “Bruno! Come here,” Abuelo ordered from upstairs. I had texted him that I was bringing in my desired wife and he was expecting me. I nodded and we went to meet him in his study. “How long have you known my son, Miranda?” Abuelo asked immediately as we sat down. He was not one known to waste time. “3 years, sir. He is the love of my life and I had always wished for him to take me to the altar and now, I'm glad he is finally fulfilling my wish.” She stared at me dreamily as she spoke and I was stunned at how good she could act. She should win an Oscar. Abuelo stared at her silently for a few moments, then he stood up, went to his desk and brought out a document which he placed in front of me. “You've done me proud, son. Sign it and tomorrow, I'll officially announce you as the new head of our cartel.” He smiled, contently. I was beyond stunned. I never expected him to believe this so easily but then again, there was a tale of him easily distinguishing a w***e from a responsible girl. I picked the pen excitedly as Miranda smiled at me. I was finally getting what was rightfully mine until… “Wait! Abuelo, this is a scam,” Gael voiced out as he barged in. “What?” Abuelo asked as he immediately collected the document and slammed it close. “They're not engaged. She's just a random girl in a contract to be his wife for six month,” he noted “What the f**k, Gael!” I exclaimed, fuming. “You know it's the truth, brother.” Laughing in an attempt to reduce the tension, I asked, “What are you talking about, Gael? Do you even have proof for your stupid claims?” I asked, certain he has nothing to prove the obvious truth. “Yes!” He exclaimed, raising his chest in a failed attempt to tower over me. “Come on in,” he added. Slowly and with poise, came Lucía, smirking as she looked me dead in the eyes.
