“Are you sure this is the right spot?” I asked Ruth, standing on the edge of the ship, looking down into the empty ocean. I can see the dark outline of the trench below with my sharper vision, but I don’t see any sign of life there besides the occasional school of fish. No hidden city or kingdom, or mermaids swimming around ready to attack. I'm almost disappointed. To be fair, the trench looks as if it went down for miles and miles. I can't see far into it.
