He glanced quickly toward the First Officer and found his friend looking vaguely uncertain. Was the good man still hesitant to feed the desires of the flesh? wondered the Captain with a tolerant amusement. Or, he thought suddenly, was the First Officer shocked at his Captain’s behavior? Or was he somehow wary of this too-pleasant situation, wary as the Captain himself kept trying to convince himself not to be…? The Captain frowned slightly, feeling all at once a pang of guilt for perhaps disappointing his friend, a quick stab of resentment at the thought that his First Officer might dare to disapprove, and, underlying it all, a subtle wash of uneasiness at the helplessness of their situation.
