Delta watched quietly as Mira got her things. She tried so hard not to cry. “I’m ready.” Delta swallowed hard and nodded. They left without letting the King and Queen know.
Caspian tagged along to have his sister’s back. When they got to shore, Mira not once did she say anything to Delta. She removed the necklace and handed it to Delta. “Thank you for everything you did.”
Delta nodded and showed no emotion. Mira started walking away, “Mira?!” A male voice came running towards Mira. A tall well-built man appeared and took Mira in his arms. “Oh, god, thank goodness you’re okay.”
Delta turned around and ran towards the water. Mira turned around but no longer saw Delta, only Caspian jumping into the water.
“Who was that?” The man asked.
“They are the people who saved me.” She responded. He nodded and started walking away with Mira in his arms.
When Delta got into her room, she got on her bed and cried like she had never cried before. Caspian just sighed from the other side of the door. He walked to his parents and explained that Mira’s family came and took her. They were heartbroken when they found out that their precious daughter got hurt.
Delta never wanted to fall in love again. Never.
Three Years Later…
Delta ran to the throne room where her parents were. “Mom, Dad!”
“What is it dear?” Her father asked.
“I want to go to college in the human world. Please? A Lot of Merparents are letting their kids go. They seem to be having a lot of fun. There is this school called, Asteria. I heard it’s a school, especially for magical creatures. I’ll fit right in. Please, please.” She gave her parents the puppy face.
“Let us think about it okay. We’ll give you a response after dinner. Is that okay?” Her mother responded. Delta nodded excitedly. She couldn’t wait.
After dinner, Delta started getting impatient as she waited for her parents to give her an answer. Caspian giggled as he saw his little sister getting antsy.
“Okay. Delta, we thought about it.” Her father spoke first.
“We don’t think it’s a good idea for you to go.” Her mother said afterward. Delta’s smile dropped.
“But your brother had a good idea.” Her father continued. Delta turned to look at her brother who was smiling at her. “You can go…” Delta jumped in excitement, “But only if you take your brother. He agreed to go with you.”
Delta turned and jumped on Caspian, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
“We already took care of everything. You and your brother will have your own apartment in the school grounds. If anything happens you have to tell us right away, okay?” Her mother told her.
“OKAY!” Delta couldn’t be more excited.
“We’ll be leaving in three days. So start packing.” Caspian told his sister.
“Yay yay!” Delta started jumping up and down. She ran to her room and started packing her things.
Three Days Later…
“Okay, my children. Please be careful. When you come back, both of you will be giving your sea to rule over.” The Queen went over and hugged each of her children. “I will miss you two.”
“We’ll miss you too.” Delta smiled.
When they finished saying their farewells, the kids left to start their new life in the human world.
They arrived at their apartment in Asteria. “This is nice.” Delta smiled. “Finally, we’re on our own.”
Caspian smiled, “They have a mermaid swim team, want to go see it?”
“Hell yea!” Delta smiled.
They finished unpacking and changed. They made their way to the school’s swimming pool. When they got there they were greeted with cheers. “Welcome to Asteria, your Majesties.” They all cheered. Delta and Caspian looked at each other and laughed.
They took their time and associated with everyone. There were mermaids from other seas and water dragons. Delta was having the time of her life. She raced with other mermaids and won. They asked if she wanted to be their captain, and she agreed. Caspian was asked to be captain of the combat team, and also agreed. Students, please head to the auditorium for the welcoming speech.
Everyone walked to the auditorium. When they sat down, the school director began speaking. “To finish up this morning, I have an important announcement. At this university for the first time in centuries, we have royals attending our school. From the kingdom of Atlanta, welcome Princess Delta, and Prince Caspian. Please come up, your highnesses.” Delta and Caspian made their way up to the podium.
They waved at everyone, when Delta looked around she saw a face she’d never thought she’d see again.
