Heartless

“Where is it?” Caspian asked Delta. “It’s back home, in my cave.” Delta answered nonchalantly.  “Delta, I get you were hurt, but it didn’t mean you had to rip out your heart and freeze it.” Caspian sat down in front of his sister.  “Why not, it felt convenient. I mean coming here, I thought better protected than getting hurt again.” She smiled at him. “Well, I’m going to sleep. Goodnight.” She walked over and kissed Caspian on the head.  Caspian waited until Delta went up to her room.  He got up and grabbed his sweater before heading out. He was able to get Mira’s number and asked her to meet.  When he reached the swimming pool, Mira was already there. “Caspian.”  She greeted him softly.  “I just came to ask for a favor.” Caspian told her.   “What is it?” Mira started getting nervous.  “Stay away from Delta. If you see her, please act like she doesn’t exist. You already hurt her once, I don’t want her hurt again.” Caspian turned and left.  Because of her my sister did one of the most painful things a mermaid could do. Before Leaving for College  Delta made her way to her cave. When she got there she made some preparations. She made one of her pods a little bigger than usual. She stripped down and got in. She lay back in the pod, with an enchanted dagger in hand.  “It’s the only way I can protect you.” She spoke to her heart.  She took the dagger and pierced into her chest. She whimpered in pain and pulled the dagger out. She pushed her hand until she felt her heart. She grabbed it with all her strength and pulled it out.  When she looked down at her hand, she saw her heart still beating. She noticed a scar across it. She nodded, “This is the right thing to do. I’ll protect you. I’ll protect you.” She got out of her pod and stumbled towards a wall.  She waved her hand over it and water moved around it. She waved her hand over her heart and froze it. She reached into the water and pulled out a pink jellyfish in a bubble. She placed her heart in the bubble and the jellyfish absorbed it.    “Please look after it until I get back.” The jellyfish lit up a faint light, as if understanding what she said. She smiled and pushed the jelly fish back into the water. She waved her hand over it and it froze again.  “May love die, and my heart rest in peace. Let the sun burn, killing any feelings left in me. When the moon rises, let it cool off my burn. Have the stars remind me how much love can hurt.”  She healed her wound and changed.  No one can hurt me anymore, she thought to herself.  Delta couldn’t sleep. She placed her hand on her chest, “My little heart, how would have you reacted on seeing her? Would you beat like crazy?” Delta giggled. “No, it's good you’re far away.”  She covered herself up, “I’ll protect you.”
