Chapter 6: Darkened Skies

My cheeks redden, I look away from him for a moment and take a shaky inhale.I have found my mate, the one person who would know who I was inside and out, the one person that I knew wouldn't leave or hurt me in any way. A sense of belonging over took me. I nuzzle myself into his touch. The electric feeling still tingles where his skin meets mine.

Everything feels so strange, how can it be that within a day my life could change so drastically? This morning I woke up feeling alone, today I am sitting across my mate. I cant help but wish that my mom were here she would have been so happy. She always spoke about mates and how sacred they are. She treasured the bond she had with my dad.

Liam looked at me with a small smile on his face and said, "Hey, what's going on, that beautiful mind of yours?"

I was about to say nothing, but I decided against it, I mean why hide my thoughts right?

" I was just thinking about today and how many things happened in such a small amount of time. It seems unreal, and I guess I'm afraid that if I close my eyes that somehow in some way this whole day would be gone. And I don't want it to, I want to find out who I am and what I can be and as selfish as it may seem letting you go seems impossible."

"You know that, that won't happen, right? No matter what happens I will always find my way to you even if it means crossing oceans even galaxy's if I have to. I only know you for a day but when you look at me with those adorable emerald green eyes I feel like tearing mountains for you and for me not really seeing my parents and all, that's a pretty big deal in my department"

I smiled warmly at him. "Thank you," I all but whisper.

"What for?", he asks pulling me towards him, his body now sitting flush against mine on the sofa.

"Everything, for finding me"

"In every life time" he kisses my temple.

Thunder clashes outside, making us turn to the window outside. Through the curtain you can just make out the brief flashing of lightning outside.

"Looks like there's a storm brewing, I will go make sure everything is closed up tight." Liam says getting up "I wonder what happened to that delivery driver?"

"I have no idea let me check the app to see if it says anything" I take out my phone getting up and walking outside to the front porch.

The app has no indication of anything so far. I glance up at the sky and take note of two things.

One : there was definitely a huge storm coming and a bad one of that.

Two : I saw a car parked directly opposite the road, but I'm sure it's just one of the pack members that dad said we're watching the house.

I waved at the car and to my relief the car's light flickered on and off twice the first one slowly and the second time quickly, I nodded now knowing that my thoughts were correct, I sigh relieved. We aren't completely alone. Feeling the cool breeze against my skin, I shiver. My phone rings giving me a fright.

Answering, I wit for the person on the other line. A flash of lightning illuminates the night sky distracting me momentarily from the call.

Heavy breathing comes through the phone, making the hairs on my arm stand on end.

"Who is this?" I move the phone from my ear to look at the caller ID, its an unknown number.

A deep growl comes from the other end of the phone, "I am watching"

I put down the phone and with one last glanced at my surroundings especially the darkened sky and I went inside. All sense of comfort knowing we weren't alone leaves me. I shut the door and locked it, and walked into the living room.

My breath is labored as I enter the room. Jared and Ashley are both awake watching something on the tv. I sit down on the sofa feeling uneasy on my feet.

"I have made certain that is everything is locked did you lock the front door when you came back inside?" Liam asks he stops walking midway when he sees my expression on my face, "Clare whats wrong?"

"Someone phoned me they said that they were watching me? What does that mean who is watching me what is going on? Wheres my dad? He was supposed to be home by now I-" I begin hyperventilating.

Liam closes the distance between us and brings me closer to him. "Hey you're okay you arent alone, they cant hurt you whoever they are. They will have to go through me before they even touch a single hair on your head, And I am sure your dad will be home soon we wont leave here until he is back okay? I have already spoken to my parents when I was busy locking up the house."

Ash looks between Liam and I, I can see the question in her gaze by how close we are but any questions she might have she chooses to keep them to herself as she approaches me and moves to sit by my feet."You're not alone Clare we are here for you, I don't know you that well but I do know that no matter what I am by your side."

As we sit together in silence, with the storm brewing outside. I know I am safe and that the people int this room have my back a small bit of calm takes over me. If complete strangers can feel so much like family, I know that whatever we have to face in the morning we will be there for one another.

I glance up at the time on the wall behind me. Its one in the morning.

"We should go get some rest there's spare bedroom upstairs and a guest bathroom as well. We should wash up and try get some rest.Ash Ive got some spare clothes for you if you want," I look to Liam and Jarred "I will see upstairs in my dads room maybe he has some spare clothes for you two to wear"

Liam smiles softly kissing my temple "You're right love sleep is a good idea"

Both Jarred and Ash yawn and nod.
