Soot-stained wooden scaffolds, constructed with care and precision, slowly twisted up the side of the mountain. Built between the steep slopes and wooden platforms, resting on both lumber and rock, were small wooden dwellings, no doubt belonging to the miners who lived within. The platforms snaked back and forth, slowly gaining height to stop their ascension near a gaping tunnel in the side of the mountain.
