34Moments later I heard him talking to someone in the living room. Were Michael and Eris still here? I could hear a woman’s voice. I couldn’t make out what was being said, but I did detect a rise in the volume between them as if arguing. Other voices joined, sounding more like a quarrel. What was happening?
With him gone, my body was getting cold. I tugged the velvety blanket tighter around me. It was the twin to the one on my couch, except this one was a deep-cranberry red.
The voices escalated to yelling then back down again. What’s going on? Is Halah here? The volume of the woman’s voice climbed as her tone became more antagonistic. It didn’t sound like Eris’s voice.
“She’s here? You brought that here?” the unknown person said. It didn’t sound like Halah either.
