Eternity

They continued their path through the forest until they reached the waterfall cave. The sunlight reflecting off the water made everything shimmer, the beauty of the place undeniable. He watched as Layla stripped down and dove into the water, her laughter filling the air as she splashed toward him. He hesitated for a moment, taking in the sight of her carefree spirit. For all the darkness in his world, there was light here. Reluctantly, he stripped down to his underwear and followed her into the cool water, feeling the refreshing sensation wash over him. The cave ahead glowed with magical symbols and flowers, as if the very essence of the kingdom had been captured in this one place. As they swam inside, Layla began to tell him about her kingdom—its beauty, its traditions, and the pain her people had endured. He listened, not out of obligation, but because he was genuinely interested. Her passion for her people, the love she had for them, stirred something in him. He hadn’t cared about anything or anyone for so long, but being here, with her, surrounded by her world, made him feel something unfamiliar: a sense of happiness. She watched him closely, gauging his reaction as she showed him her family and the people who were close to her. Sin had expected to feel out of place, like a predator among prey, when he arrived here but instead, he felt welcomed, even… content. It was strange, the warmth that bloomed in his chest as the people around him treated him not with fear, but with kindness. He wasn’t used to this, and the realization that he enjoyed it unnerved him. Sin caught Layla’s gaze once more. There was a softness in her eyes, an openness that made him want to protect her, even from himself. For a moment, he considered what it might be like to stay in this place, to belong. But then the darkness that had consumed him for centuries whispered in his mind, reminding him of the monster he truly was. He couldn’t let himself get attached. Not to her, not to anyone.
