Chapter 11

784 Words
Evy was about to leave the school premises and head toward the parking lot when she suddenly felt someone grab her hand and pull her into one of the classrooms. She let out a loud shriek, but no one was around to hear it. Unfortunately, she had stayed back to handle some important matters related to the cultural team, so it was already late. Most students had left the building. Only a few staff members remained in their offices, which were far from this corridor. After a few seconds of struggling, Evy realized it was Edward who had dragged her inside. “What the hell? She glared. “I can’t believe you,” he snapped, glaring at her back. “You can’t believe me? Bullshit!” she yelled back. “My words are bullshit?” he scoffed. “Then what about you? I can’t believe you could forgive your best friend’s best friend, but not your own best friend.” “Correction, Mr. Edward Loraine,” she said coldly. “Ex–best friend. And as for Carson? Unlike you, he was sincere about his apology.” He stepped forward and pinned her against the wall, his hand gripping her shoulder. “You think I wasn’t sincere?” he demanded. “Do you know how much it hurts to see you forgive Carson but not me? Your ignorance is killing me. It’s killing me, goddammit!” Evy shoved him backward with all her strength. “What about me?” she shouted. “Do you think I’m enjoying this? Carson never mattered, but you did. You humiliated me. My own best friend embarrassed me in front of the entire school. When I needed you the most, where the hell were you? Oh, right! Busy enjoying your time with your girlfriend.” Her glare cut deep. Edward rushed forward and grabbed both her hands. “Evy, please,” he pleaded. “I’m sorry. I miss you.” “I hate you,” she said through clenched teeth. “I hate you.” The words made him flinch. He stepped back. Evy ran toward the exit, but stopped abruptly and turned to face him one last time. “Friendship is built on trust, and I’ve lost that trust in you. Carson’s apology didn’t matter because he wasn’t my best friend. You were. He didn’t choose that evil b***h over me. You did. I didn’t leave you—you left me the day you chose your popularity and your jackass reputation over your best friends. It was always about you.” Her voice trembled with restrained emotion. “So now enjoy your popularity. I learned to live without you a long time ago. It shouldn’t be hard for you either. You already moved on from us the moment you chose your new friends and your new life. With that, Evy walked out. She reached home to find the house empty. Her parents had gone out to spend time together. She was glad. She went straight to her room and fell asleep. Little did Eddy know, he wasn’t the only one hurting. He had messed up. Big time. Damn! How had he let this happen? That day still haunted him. It was his biggest mistake, and if he could go back in time, he would undo it without hesitation. He collapsed onto a nearby chair, burying his face in his hands. Someone sat beside him, but he ignored it until a hand rested on his shoulder. Carson. “I lost her,” Eddy whispered. “No, you didn’t,” Carson said firmly. “She hates me,” He argued. “Then why did she listen to you?” His friend countered. “Why does it still hurt her that you chose mad Maddy over her?” Eddy let out a small chuckle at the nickname Evy had coined. “You really think so?” he asked, a flicker of hope in his eyes. “I don’t think,” Carson said confidently. “I know.” “I’ll win her back,” Eddy said quietly, more to himself than to Carson. “I have to win her back.” “And you will,” Carson assured him. Eddy would regain her trust. He would become the old Eddy again, the one she loved. And he would get her back. Not just her friendship. Her love. He had always loved her. He had just been lost, blinded by attention, popularity, and hormones. It was true what people said. You never learn the value of someone until you lose them. He had learned that lesson the hard way. And now, he will do everything in his power to fix his past mistakes.
