Chapter 13

When she woke up the next morning, Kono was still asleep beside her. She got up as quietly as she could and got dressed. She turned one more time to look at him before leaving.  She needed to speak to her grandmother about her dream, before telling Kono. When she arrived at her grandmas little home, she seen her sitting on the porch smiling. “Well, well, well. What brings you here this morning?” Neha paused and glanced at Anikas neck, “Ah...so you have changed? And joined with your mate? Wonderful. I am proud of you.”  Wait, what? How did she know about her change? And how did she know about her and Kono finally, joining? “By the puzzled look on your face, I assume you are trying to figure out how I know either of those things?” She nodded her head and went to sit next to her grandma.  “I didn’t know you were one of the chosen to change, but I do recognize a wolfs mark when I see one. I have also learned over the years that wolves cannot join with their mate until they have both gone through the change, and when they do, the male marks what’s his.” Her hand flew up to her neck. He bit her last night, is that what he was doing? She felt the imprint on her neck and blushed remembering their night together. Her grandmother chuckled and shook her head.  “You had no idea did you? I would assume he would’ve told you before you left him this morning.” “Well, I left before he woke up. I needed to talk to you.” Her grandmother stopped laughing, sighed, and looked up at Anika. Seeing the worry on Anikas face changed her expression to one of concern. “What is it? Are you ok? Are you not happy?” “Oh no! It’s not that. Kono surprisingly makes me very happy. I am honored to be his. I’m fine, I just had a dream last night that I’m not sure was a dream or a vision, and it has me worried.” “What was the dream about?” Anika shared the dream with her grandmother as Neha listened very closely. Anika was sure to not leave anything out since the smallest thing could be very important. “So what do you think it was?” “When you woke up, did it feel like it had been real?” “Yes. I was out of breath and sweating as if I had been running, just like in the dream.” “It could have been a dream, but it also could have very likely been a vision. Only you can know for sure and only time will tell.” She knew her grandma was right. And she also knew that she already knew what it was. It hurt her heart to think that any danger could come to Kono. She already cared for him so much. She needed to tell him about her dream. Maybe that would help keep him safe. “Thank you Neha. I have to go.” She hugged and kissed her grandma, and left. As she was walking back, she ran into Atepa and Howi. “Hey guys, how are you?” “Woah, what happened to your neck?” Atepa ran to her to get a closer look. She felt her cheeks get hot and put her hand up over her mark. “It’s a wolf mark” Howi answered as he walked up beside Atepa. Both girls looked at Howi then back at each other. “And what exactly is a wolf mark?” Atepa looked determined to know but before Anika could say anything Etu walked towards them. "So, he’s marked you?” She could see anger and pain in his face but she had to stand her ground to get through to him. “I’m his mate. What did you expect to happen?” Atepa and Howi looked between the both of them uncomfortably. “Well, I’m still confused. As your best friend I think you need to fill me in. Come, let’s take a walk just you and me and catch up.” “I really have to get b-” Atepa cut her off before she could answer. “Nope. He isn’t going anywhere. We have to talk.” She kissed Howi on the cheek, wrapped her arms around one of Anikas own, and they walked off towards the river.
