The Pack

Chapter 18

Sounds of yelling and growling woke them both up. They jumped out of bed and ran out to see what was causing all the noise. 

They walked out into something they did not expect. The rival tribe that had attacked Anika and Kono before, were now here, attacking the village. There were wolves fighting along with some of their people, trying to defend them but they were outnumbered it seemed. 

Anika heard an ear shattering howl and then Konos wolf leaped out into the fight before she registered what was happening. She was looking around at all the faces of their people. Two faces stood out. Etu and Dyani were glaring at her with evil smirks on their faces that sent chills down her spine.

A wolf walked up behind them, they turned around and looked as if they were speaking to it, before turning back towards Anika and shifting. She didn’t even realize that they had already gone through the change, she hadn’t been around them really. 

Before she could focus on what was happening, all three of the wolves ran towards her. She knew she was outnumbered and inexperienced in fighting. She looked over to see Kono fighting off a handful of men. She heard her wolf try to say something but before she listened, she turned and ran. While she was running she called herself names and questioned what kind of Luna would run from the fight instead of defending her people.

She turned to see a man chasing her instead of a wolf. She paused and her eyes widened as she seen her dream flash before her eyes. The mans face came into view for a split second and she recognized Etus face, only it looked nothing like him. He looked like an evil version of himself. Then, just like in her dream, Kono came from out of no where and tackled him down. Etu immediately changed back into his wolf form and they began fighting. She had no idea what to do as she stood frozen in place.

Another wolf came and joined in, attacking Kono. All at once she felt her blood boil and anger filled her body while she witnessed the attack on her mate. Before she had a chance to second guess it, she changed into her wolf. Looking through her wolves eyes, her eyes met Konos as his eyes widened and looked to her left. She turned just in time to be tackled by another wolf. They rolled until she was out of view of Kono, Etu, and the other wolf. When she stood, the wolf that tackled her was now standing in front of her showing all of it’s teeth. She focused on the wolf and began trying to speak to it.

“Dyani?” 

“You watched me change before your own eyes and you ran? You’re an embarrassment  as Luna.”

“Dyani why are you doing this?”

“You should never have been chosen by Kono. However, it wasn’t until after I changed, that I realized it was for the best, as I met my mate as well.”

“What? Who?”

“Oh you know him. You see, you broke his heart just as Kono broke mine. Etu didn’t expect it, but as soon as I seen him and told him we were fated mates, he forgot about you rather quickly. We kept our shifting to ourselves after we heard you and Konos little story about the attack. We decided the pack needed a stronger Alpha and Luna, so we went to the rivals to the East and confirmed their suspicions. We told them that if they helped to get rid of you and Kono, we would join our peoples.”

“That was not a deal you had the right to make. You won’t get away with this.” She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.This was just too much and she felt her body start to itch and shake.

“Oh, pathetic Anika...we already ha-” Dyani paused mid-sentence before howling in pain. Anika heard a loud howl from the direction where Kono was. She never took her eyes from Dyani as she hunched over whimpering. Dyani looked up at Anika with tears filling her eyes, and growled while showing all of her teeth, “he’s going to regret that” was the last thing she said before she threw herself at Anika.
