Anika shot up and turned around to see Kono walking towards her.
"I heard you were looking for me" she watched a small smile come on his face as he slowly walked up to her.
"Well, I woke up and you were gone. I was just curious where you had run off to." He nodded and smiled again as he sat next to her. Why did she really care where he went off to anyway?
"I had to discuss a few things with my father about us." She tensed up and almost yelled defensively.
"About us? What about us?" She then heard a deep laugh from him that she had never heard before. He raised his hands up in the air innocently.
"Calm down, calm down. There are just a few things that I wanted to talk to you about myself before you found out from anyone else. I just think it would go better coming from me, seeing as how were meant to be together and everything." He looked so serious all of a sudden, and his eyes were full of compassion as he looked at her.
"What do you mean, we're meant to be together? Like fate?" He smiled again. She sighed, she could state at that smile all day.
"Something like that" he took a deep breath before continuing, "You've heard the stories going around about our ancestors...turning into wolves?"
"Yea of course, everyone has heard those stories" she felt her nerves twitching as she grew more anxious, "Why?"
"Well...what if I were to tell you that they weren't just stories? What if I we're to tell you that they were real. That me, and few members of the tribe, and you...were some of the few who changed?"
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. He was crazy. Not only was she joined with someone who she barely knew, but now came the realization that he wasn't right in the head.
"Oh wow. Um...I gotta go." She stood to leave but he was up in front of her before she knew it, blocking her path with his hands on her shoulders. She felt electricity coming from his hands and spreading through her whole body just by a little touch. He dropped his hands to his side and she immediately felt herself missing his touch.
"I'm sorry, just hear me out. I didn't want to believe it either. Apparently a few members of the tribe are chosen every so often to change. To become protectors of our people. That's why I left. My father told me that my time was coming. He could sense it because...because he's one of them. I didn't believe him so I left. I was alone when I changed and I had no clue what to do. I had to figure it all out on my own and I hated it. As soon as I got back, my wolf started acting crazy. He was jumping around in my head yelling 'MATE' over and over again. I started to look around and when my eyes landed on you, he stopped. I couldn't take my eyes off of you" he looked into her eyes as if asking if he could go on. She relaxed and nodded slowly.
"I didn't know I would find you so quickly, but I knew you were meant to be mine and I couldn't wait one more minute to claim you. Every wolf is given a mate to share the rest of their life with. My wolf, can sense yours. You are close to your change. I know this is a lot to take in but I needed you to know."
She stood quietly, soaking it all in. Every word that he just spoke to her was swirling around her mind making her dizzy. She lost her balance for a split second, before she found herself against Konos chest, wrapped in his arms. He was so warm and his scent was intoxicating.
"Anika? Are you okay?" Butterflies filled her stomach as he said her name. She slowly looked up at him, and could feel her heartbeat getting faster. She looked down at his lips and felt as his body tensed.
"I...I'm fine...It was just a lot to...to take in" he cupped her cheek and stared into her eyes.
"Are you sure? I shouldn't have told you so much at once. I'm sorry."
"No it's fine really. I'm okay. I'm glad you told me." She all of the sudden realized that she was still in his arms. That she was staring at his lips the whole time he spoke. She finally tore her eyes away and began to pull back but he held her in place. She didn't fight him. He took a deep breath before she heard a low growl come from his throat that sent shivers down her spine.
"You have no idea what you do to me...without even trying."
"Wha...what do you mean?" She froze as he leaned in close enough that she could feel his breath on her lips.
"I want...no, I need...to taste you." He opened his eyes and met hers, pleading for permission. She couldn't say no, she didn't want to say no. He leaned forward a little more before she pushed herself the rest of the way and their lips met.
At first it was soft and slow, and then it deepened. His tongue asked for entrance into her mouth and she willingly parted her lips. She moaned as his tongue explored her mouth. His hands were now on both sides of her face, holding her right where he wanted her. She put her arms up around his neck with her fingers in his hair and pulled him closer. She felt the tree now up against her back as one of her legs lifted around his waist with a mind of its own. She could feel his hardness pressing against her core and she could feel an aching, tingling sensation rising up from her stomach.
“Anika are you out h-” Anika pulled away as fast as she could and looked over at a shocked Atepa. “Oh my gosh! I am so sorry! I’ll just go ba-”
“No. It’s fine” Kono squeezed her hand gently before letting go, “I was just on my way back.”
Anika watched as Kono walked back towards the village and disappeared into the trees, before finally catching her breath. What had came over her? Why did she just let that happen?
“Well, well, well...what did I just interrupt? I am so sorry” she said, laughing and walking towards Anika.
“Nothing. We were just talking” she said, turning back towards the river and sitting back down.
“Oh, is that how people are talking these days? I had no idea.” Atepa sat down next to her friend and playfully shoved her. “Come on, spill. What happened? You were so unsure of this whole thing and that right there I just witnessed did not look like uncertainty. In fact, it looked like you were really enjoying yourself.”
“I was. I...I don’t know what that was. We were talking. He opened my eyes to some of my questions but now I just have more. That. That was unexpected...but it was very, very good” she turned to look at Atepa, “Now I see why you and Howi are always eating each others faces.” They laughed together and then sat by the river for another hour just talking and enjoying each others company.
