Morning returned, and work began for some. Arsalan was reluctant but had to leave Stephanie’s side. Before leaving, he blessed Stephanie’s eyes with his face and a goodbye kiss. “Stay out of trouble,” Arsalan reminded her, for the sake of it. Stephanie rolled onto her back once he was gone, staring at the ceiling. Nothing had changed, yet she felt better than yesterday. When she turned, all that remained was emptiness, coupled with the messy side of the bed where Arsalan had been. It made her think of last night, when he had glued her close and fallen asleep.
