Chapter 10 - Eva

1153 Words
I am absolutely knackered, who would have thought that painting for hours on end would be so tiring. Well, not me that’s for sure. It’s not even like I have moved very far, but somehow it has really taken it out of me today. All I want to do now is have a long hot bath and an early night, but Nya has other ideas. To be fair to her, I have kept her locked up inside my head since we got here, so I can understand why she is anxious to get out and do her thing. I can’t remember ever feeling her this restless before though, so I don’t want to make her wait another day. “We can’t shift near the beach, or we will face the crazy wolf-girl’s wrath. So I guess we better go to the woods.” I tell her as I reluctantly jog out of the house, leaving any hopes of an early night as just that, a hope to be unfulfilled. We leave the beach path and walk through the dunes towards the woods. It’s certainly quieter this way. In fact I don’t see anyone else at all as we carefully venture into the dense woods. Under the trees it is almost pitch black and I can easily see why she said this would be a better place to run than the beach. For a moment I start to worry that this might be a trap, but I don’t really have a choice now. I can’t keep Nya locked up inside my head forever, however tempted I am sometimes. “Crazy wolf-girl.” She laughs at my description of the person we had met earlier. “I like her.” She adds gleefully. “Yes, I know, you said.” I respond, unimpressed. “I hope we see her in the woods.” She continues much to my annoyance. “Yes, you said that too, but I’m more than happy if we don’t see anyone tonight.” “What’s the point of being near other wolves if we never see any of them?” She asks, and I reluctantly admit that she does have a point, but I’m not sure I am ready for that just yet. After meeting the wolf-girl earlier I’m not sure if I will ever be ready for that, however happy Nya seems at the prospect. I stop walking and have a final look around to check that we are not being watched, before quickly undressing. “Just shut up and run before I change my mind.” I jokingly warn her and she wastes no time in doing as I instructed. I leave Nya to do her thing, which basically means terrorising some small furry creatures, whilst I try to tune out and rest in the back of her mind. I know it’s nature and she’s a wolf, so it’s just part of what she does, but I have never enjoyed watching her do it. She suddenly stops, her attention drawn away from her prey. Stood quite a distance away, but staring straight at us is a huge wolf that is easily the largest wolf I have ever seen. I mean I’ve never seen another wolf before in person, but I’m fairly certain even if I had, it would pale in comparison to this one. I can feel that Nya desperately wants to run over to it, heck I want to run over to it. I feel such a strong urge to sprint over there and burry my face in its fur, before doing things with it that I definitely shouldn’t be thinking about doing with a wolf I don’t know. I have no idea why I am suddenly feeling these things and my thoughts about this being a trap start to resurface. This huge, dangerous looking wolf that is still staring directly at us is unexplainably turning me on with just a look. I feel Nya start to panic and it makes me panic too. After a few deep breaths of the exhilarating smell in the air, she thankfully turns and runs away. She runs straight to our clothes and hastily gives back control of our body. I quickly dress before running towards the beach. It didn’t look like he was following us but just to be sure I’m not going to go straight home. “You have been desperate to see other wolves so much, then the first wolf you see you just stare at it, then run away. Great way to make new wolf friends.” I tease her, although I am grateful that she did. “I think he’s our mate.” She whispers quietly. “What do you mean, you think he’s our mate? I thought you said you would know straight away if we ever found him.” She has definitely told me that on more than one occasion before. “Ok, fine. He is our mate.” She shouts getting agitated with me. “This just gets better and better. So the one wolf that is supposed to complete us. The perfect wolf for us, just so happens to be the first wolf that we ever see. I think your moon goddess is being a bit lazy, if she’s just pairing wolves up with the first wolf they meet.” “It doesn’t work like that.” She protests frustratedly. “It sure seems like it to me.” “The mate bond was there before we saw him. It’s been there ever since you could hear me.” “So you believe that that wolf, that wolf we just saw back there, is our perfect mate? He is going to complete us?” I know it’s not her fault that she believes all that s**t, but I can’t help from showing my disbelief. “Yes.” Her response is blunt and straight to the point. “So why did you run away from him then? Hmmm. Didn’t you want to go over to him and say hi, however you wolves actually do that?” “You can tease me all you want but if I hadn’t run away when I did, there is a chance, and it’s probably a pretty big chance, that he would have mated us and claimed us by now.” Incredulously, she almost sounds disappointed that it didn’t happen. “Great, and you’d have been happy with that? You would have just let him?” “I would have been over the moon, but I know you would hate me for letting it happen. Even though I probably wouldn’t have been able to fight him off if he really wanted us. Our mate is very impressive.” She says and I can feel her excitement. “He’s certainly big.” I concede. “Big wolf, big....” “Thank you. I don’t want to think about that.”
