The mysterious visitor

1110 Words
During the days when his father was away on a business trip, there wasn't much progress in Lucas and Kara's relationship. In the blink of an eye, summer vacation arrived. As a math prodigy, Lucas is scheduled for intensive training every summer vacation by the school. "Hey!" Lucas felt a tap on his shoulder and turned to see Barry, his good friend. Barry rested his hand on Lucas's shoulder. "What's up with you? Looking so down early in the morning?" Lucas chuckled softly in response. "Nothing." But truth be told, he was feeling a bit reluctant to be away from Kara for too long. The two walked along the stone-paved path of the school, exchanging greetings with familiar classmates passing by. A crowd gathered around the bulletin board under the teaching building. Barry joined them, examining the posters pinned to the board. He rubbed his chin. "Ah, it's about this year's intensive training." A girl standing ahead turned around, her big eyes blinking with joy as she called out, "Lucas!" Barry raised an eyebrow. "Elena, do you only see Lucas in your eyes? Can't you see anyone else?" Elena glared at him, but when her eyes met Lucas's, her expression immediately lit up with anticipation. "Where are you going for training this time?" Lucas didn't answer Elena's question. Instead, he pondered over how he would suppress his longing for Kara during his absence. Without waiting for a reply, Elena anxiously waved her hand up and down in front of Lucas. Barry, surprised to see Lucas so lost in thought, remarked, "What's up with you? You look like you're still half-asleep." Lucas adjusted his glasses. "Yeah, didn't sleep well last night." "Let's head back to the classroom then. You can catch a quick nap before the meeting." "Hey, wait for me!" Elena tightened her grip on her backpack and pushed through the crowd, catching up with the two boys with long strides. "Lucas, you still haven't answered me. Where are you going for training?" It's the scorching summer season. Lucas has been in training in City A for half a month now. The business banquet that Kara's company is attending also happens to be held in City A. However, Kara hasn't mentioned it to Lucas. The industry association holds its annual meeting in the summer, and the invited guests are basically CEOs from various industries. Amidst the mingling at the banquet, Kara stands out in her sleek business suit, contrasting with the other female guests, yet exuding even more grace and confidence. At this business gathering, Kara undoubtedly becomes the center of attention, with glimpses of her engaging in conversation with different individuals over drinks seen from time to time. Kara's outstanding appearance and exceptional demeanor, coupled with her adept social skills, humility without being subservient, quickly endear her to many influential figures in the circle. Standing in the corner, Barry, also didn't anticipate encountering Lucas's stepmother at the business event he was dragged to by his own father. Kara's beauty is the type that leaves a lasting impression, the kind you remember long after just one glance. Barry, having been Lucas's close classmate and attending Kara and Levi's wedding in the past, naturally recognizes her instantly at the banquet. After discreetly sizing up the woman from head to toe, Barry couldn't help but silently admit to himself: "Why does she keep getting more and more attractive?" Despite his thoughts, Barry quickly retrieved his phone from his pocket and dialed Lucas's number. The phone rang for quite a while before the other side leisurely picked up, his voice chilly as he asked, "What's up?" "There is! It's big!" Barry hurriedly exclaimed, "Guess who I just saw?!" Lucas on the other end of the line had no patience for idle chatter. Lately, his mind was solely focused on training, and he considered even one extra word with Barry a waste of time. Just as Lucas was about to hang up, Barry finally got to the point, "I saw Kara!" Lucas's hand holding the phone paused, his brow furrowing as he asked, "Where are you right now?" "Do you know about the business banquet in City A?" Barry continued, "My dad insisted on dragging me here, and I never expected to see Kara here. She looks even more stunning than she did at the wedding." "You want to die?" As soon as Barry's words trailed off, he was met with Lucas's icy voice that sent shivers down his spine, causing him to quickly avert his gaze. "I'm sorry, I was just complimenting her!" "You watch out for her, make sure she doesn't drink," Lucas instructed. "I can't do that! She's already had several drinks," Barry quickly interjected. Given his position, he didn't dare to control whether Kara drank or not. Lucas rubbed his forehead, knowing Barry wasn't capable of this task. If even he couldn't keep an eye on Kara, how could Barry? "Then just keep an eye on her, don't let any troublemakers near her," Lucas instructed. "Got it! I've got this!" Barry replied confidently. After all, if he couldn't control Kara, surely he could handle others, right? Lucas fell silent for a moment, recalling Kara's captivating presence. After a while, he finally spoke up, "Did she bring a male companion?" "I don't think so. She didn't even bring an assistant," Barry replied. "Send me your location," Lucas said before ending the call. By the end of the evening, Kara had consumed quite a bit of alcohol. Her tolerance wasn't bad, but she wasn't immune to its effects either. While she managed to maintain her composure and engage in lively conversation at the event, once it was over, a throbbing headache crept up on her, leaving her feeling irritable. Upon returning to her room, Kara retrieved a robe and toiletries from her suitcase and headed towards the direction of the shower. Unbeknownst to the woman, as she showered, the previously tightly closed room suddenly swung open from outside... After finishing her shower, the throbbing sensation in her head seemed to have eased slightly. The woman in the mirror wore a white bathrobe, her hair partially dried, and her exposed collarbones looked particularly alluring under the light. Kara's skin was naturally fair, with a creamy complexion that was incredibly well-nourished. Fresh from the shower, her skin had a slight pinkish hue, her clean face flawless without a single blemish, and her pores barely visible, let alone any wrinkles to mar its beauty. After meticulously applying her skincare products, Kara stepped out of the bathroom wearing hotel slippers. However, upon seeing the unexpected presence of another person in the room, her expression suddenly turned cold.
