CHAPTER 9: An Old Foe

952 Words
Before I could relax, I heard my grandmother exclaim "We have to talk about Zed" My ears perked up, this was not a name I was familiar with and I could feel my wolf pacing inside my head. I listened as they talked, turns out Zed is a warlock, one of the specie that are known to be evil. Unlike other species and shifters that have a soul, warlocks walk this realm without one. They where once wizards, but their soul was stripped from them during a ritual held by evil witches and vampires. In stealing a wizards soul they believe they can also steal their power. Most times the witches and vampires are killed after the ritual by the warlock because removing the soul also opens up dark powers to the warlock. But when the witch is killed, it leaves the warlock with no way to find and return his soul to where it belongs. A warlock is forever surrounded by darkness and therefull evil by nature. And without a soul, warlocks are immortal and they are left roaming this real always feeling incomplete. According to my grandmother, Zed has been around for thousands of years, always searching for a way to heal his soul. He has come to believe that the key lies with her and has been after her ever since. Right after my mother was born, Zed broke into her home and killed my grandfather and my uncle. I was shocked, I never knew my mother had a brother. Before Zed could grab my grandmother and mother, the moon Goddess opened a passageway to the fairy realm for them to escape. Zed was furious, he vowed to kill any decedent with the fairy gene until my grandmother returned and helped him return his soul. Because my mother only carries the fairy gene, but will never become a fairy herself, she was not able to stay within the fairy realm. The moon Goddess found her a family and put a glammer on her so as to hide the gene until she became of age and found her mate. On her 18th birthday she was in the pack house when she found her mate. He was the nephew of the Alpha, once she shifted and the mating process was completed, the glammer failed. It only took Zed a few moments to know she was in our realm and within a year he located the wolf that carried the fairy gene. **FLASH BACK** My mom was 2 months pregnant with me when Zeds army first attacked, the pack lost over a hundred wolves that night. Over the next months several other shifters came to the aid of our pack, but it never seemed enough and Zeds army just kept growing. It seemed to my mom that all was lost. Darkness descended over the pack, the promis of my arrival the only light. On the day of my birth the fighting seem to be more brutal than ever before, the metallic smell of blood was strong throughout the packhouse as the enemy seemed to be pressing closer and closer. As my mother lay there, helpless and in full labor with me a glow began to form into a door, through it my grandmother and the Moon Goddess walked into the room. My Moon Goddess took my mother's hand, and spoke in an angelic voice "this child you carry will be special, take her and keep guard over her for she will have the only power to stop the evil that is infecting your realm" The moon Goddess turned and entered the glowing door, leaving my grandmother and mother alone in the room. As pain ripped through my mother and another contraction took hold she let out a scream. My grandmother knelt beside her taking her hand as the Dr and nurse maid rushed in, the Dr did a quick check and told my mother it was time to push seeming to not notice the woman kneeling next to my mother. A few minutes later I was born. When they brought my father in the room, he noticed immediately that my grandmother was there, even though it seemed no one else could see or sense her presence, he could see her clearly and nodded to her a silent acknowledgement. Once I was cleaned and check, the nurse maid returned me to my mother's arms. All the staff quickly gathered together and left room, leaving me, my mom, my dad and my unseen grandmother alone. My grandmother then began to glow and raise up off the floor. She hovered meer inches above us while whispering words my mom or dad have never heard before. Time stood still but when she was done speaking and back on the floor again she spoke to both my parents. "You must run, do not stop until you find the place I will build for you. You will know this place for there you will see the mixture of your blood, the magic of growth in the green trees, the life of blue in the sky above and the two joined forever in the lake of love. Until I can create this place and until you find it, run, never stop, never stay, run for your child's life will be forfeit if you don't!" " Remember you love for each other and remember the love I have for all of you." She turned to leave but spoke one more time before disappearing into the glowing door. Her last words haunted my father "you will have another, Zed will thirst for her blood as he thirsts for mine, I will see you when it's time" With that she was gone.
