As I laid in my room, looking out the window at the moon, I realized that it would be full on my birthday. A wolves first shift was always on the first full moon after their eighteenth birtday. My mind wondered and I found myself thinking about the legend that said if your 18th birtday fell on a full moon you would be blessed with special gifts by the Moon Goddess. As I laid there I could not help fantasize, wondering how much truth there might be in that fairytale, if any at all. I finally drifted off to sleep, me head filled with dreams of becoming a powerful she wolf, finding my mate, and ruling a kingdom full of shifters I loved.
The warmth on my face told me the sun has risen. My eye lids started to flutter and when I fully woke up, I heard allot of commotion out side on the green, it was distracting but I did not bother to check on what it was, after all, they did have a massive amount of work to do before my party so I knew it was just workers decorating and getting the green ready for tonight festivities. I ran strait over to my mirror to see if I looked any different. Light Grey eyes stared back at me, my long alburn hair was wavy and messy coming down just past my shoulders, my skin was a very light shade of bronze, my high cheekbones accented my eyes and my round rosie cheeks made my plump lips look they where always pouting. Yup, I looked exactly the same as I did yesterday.... I would check again this afternoon, after all, I was born exactly at midday so until then I was technically still only 17.
I went in to the wash room and turned on the shower, I let it get hot as I laid out my clothes and undressed. As the hot water ran down over my body I let it relax my tense muscles in my neckandshoulders. I tilted my head back and let the water wash away all my worries.
After my shower I got dressed. Living out here away from all others, it was hard to get nice clothes. Until two years ago all we had was what we brought ourselves or what others who joined us had carried with them. So much of my clothing was hand me downs from my my mom or other womanin our clan.
We got lucky when two years ago Sophia joined our clan. Sophia is a witch with the gift of weaving givingby the MoonGoddess. In the normal world she would use her gift to weave spells or traps that other shifters would pay her very well for, but here she did not find much need for those skills. Instead she learned to use gifts in ways to help our village. Thanks to Sophia our little vilage now had cloth. I don't know how she did it but using her powers she would weave the most beautiful material, it would always glimmer in the moonlight. With Sophia's material my mom made me a light blue and gray blouse and a pair of patch jeans for today. I paired it with the black opal necklace and earing set that use to belong to my dad's mother. The gray in my blouse matched my eyes perfectly and the fire in my opals shown vibrant blues of every shade. It was the perfect combination and today would be the perfect day. That's what I told myself as I opened my door to head down for breakfast.
The house was quite, to quite. Not a wolf or shifter in sight, as I started towards my dad's study I heard the commotion out on the green again. I turned around and decided to check it out. I was sure that's where I would find my parents and my sister anyway. When I entered the green, what I found there was so far from what I expected that it felt as though my heart had stopped beating.
In the center of the green was a man tied to a pole with silver chains, kneeling next to him in what looked like a golden cage was a beautiful girl. She looked about my age but something was off. She had long silver hair and fair skin. She wore a long green dress that was so light, it was almost as though you could see right through it and on top of her head lay a type of crown that dangled a deep green stone perfectly centered on her brow. When she looked in my direction I was captivated by her eyes. They where gray, the same shade as mine, except, they had specks of dark green that seemed to glow throughout them. She was breath taking. The man with her was a wolf, he was screaming at my father to let them go, threatening him. I'm sure he knew he could not get out of his silver chains, but the way he was carrying on I was sure he meant every word he was saying. As I took in the seen I found myself staring at the man. If he did not look so angry he might be handsome. His hair was black like the night and his eyes blue like the brightest sky. He was about six foot tall and lean. Not to lean, just enough to show off his defined muscles. His button up shirt that use to be white I think, it was stained a crimson from blood, was open, showing off his chest. A tattoo barely peaking out below his sleeve. He had on jeans that fit him perfect in all the right places and boots that came up to his knees. Yes, I was sure of it, without that scowl he wore he would be very good looking indeed. He had been looking at me since I walked out onto the green, but looking through me would be a better explanation on how it felt. He was still yelling and carrying on, his face holding that scowl, but I somehow knew it wasn't directed at me even though his eyes stayed glued to where I was standing. It was like he had me in a trance, I had a terrible time trying to look away and it wasn't until my little sister came up behind me and whispered to me that she was scared that I finally pulled my eyes away to look at her.
