Sophia POV
As we made our way across the green I saw the guards exit the forest. My heart stopped and my feet became to heavy to keep moving forward. I must have gone ash color because Laurel noticed and stopped along side of me, she was saying something but I couldn't hear her. All I could do was stare at the woman the guards where bringing towards us. The woman who ruined my life by her simple existence. I knew it was not her fault that my mate rejected me, that he loved her and her cub enough to go through the pain of that rejection, I know it was not her fault but I could not help but resent her. And if she is here, what of her mate, the man that was supposed to be my mate, and where is her cub and what of the place I once called home. The pack that my mother and I cared for.
I was a result of teenage lust, my father did not want anything to do with my mother or I. It was just the two of us for so many years. We traveled from pack to pack, but bears always seemed to welcome witches in their midst easily. Probably because we made good Drs and midwives. My mom was a midwife and I would weave spells to earn a living. We thought it was fate when I found my mate in the Big Tree Bear Pack, My mother already found her mate in that pack. She had 2 cubs with him and was happy. But it wasn't fate, it was cruel the way life treated me. Thats why I left when my mate rejected me, I could not ruin the life she had made in the pack. She deserved to be happy and I could not stay around and watch my mate with another. It was hard enough to fight the darker side of myself. I left them to not only spare them but to save my soul. If Lola was here, what of my old pack??? Laurel was shaking me now, I had to snap out of it if I wanted answers, the question was, did I truly want to know the answers...
"Are you ok" Laurel asked again, "yeah yeah, I'm OK, I just, well... I know her" It was Laurel who stopped this time "you what? You know who that is? Do you know why she is here, where she comes from, why she would come here now of all times?" I just shook my head, never taking my eyes off Lola until finally she stood in front of us.
Shane got straight to business asking who she was and why she came. He didn't even bother asking about all the blood. She was stammering her words, she kept looking between Shane and me, I wasn't sure if she was trying to figure out if I remembered her, or if she was afraid I would tell Shane she was lying, or if she simply thought I would not let them help her. The longer she went without saying anything the more suspicious Shane got. I too became suspicious, if she ment no harm why would she not simply tell us her reasons for being here.
To break the silence and open up an avenue to speak I leaned in and asked "what are you doing here Lola" The look of pure terror that flashed across her face told me she hoped I did not remember her, and that could only mean she came here to deceive us. She quickly regained her composure and said, "I am looking for asylum, I beg for your help, please have mercy" I think she would have gone into a full on fit, dropping to the ground and shedding crocodile tears if the guards weren't holding her up. But the tears did fall, but I wasn't buying it. I knew Lola, the one my mate chose her over me, and I knew one of the reasons was because she was so strong and composed, she was never one that would cry and especially not in front of strangers.
Shane took my arm and pulled me to the side, being shifters everyone could hear us so it was more for show. "Who is this woman Sophia, and how is it you know her? Can she be trusted?" I took a quick glance at Lola, who mouthed "please" but I showed no emotion. "Shane, this woman is from the Big Tree Bear Pack, and if she is here there is a good chance my family has either joined Zed or is in danger. I will do what I can to help, but please understand If my family is in danger I must try to help them."
Luckily Sophia was part of the clan and while putting on her show she min-linked Shane, "I don't trust her, but if she thinks I will betray you for my family she might give up information we need. Please understand that this clan is now my family, the only way I would help my mother or half siblings, is if it in no way would hurt my clan, this clan. Please trust me Shane"
Shane nodded, then he instructed the guards to take Lola to the guest house next to the clan houses. (Mind-link to clan from Shane) " Everyone listen, we have a danger amongst us, please, if you can go to your home, if you run into myself, Laurel or Sophia just go along with what we say. No one is to tell this stranger anything. The only ones that will speakwith her are Alpha, myself, Sophia, Laurel and Seline. She is to think Sophia is our clan Dr, got it?" "YES BETA" "I trust you Sophia, let's see why this Bear has walked willingly into the dragons den." (End Mind-link ) Dr, you go too, check over her injuries but I'm sending Laurel with you. Shane winked at me then turned to Lola, "Lola is it? Well my dear Lola, I'm letting our Dr look you over, but I'm sending our Gamma to be sure you don't try to sway her to your side by stories of her family, be a good girl and keep quite, the Alpha and I will be by later to get your story"
With that Shane turned away, giving me a quick smile letting me know he just laid the ground work for me. He walked off and the guards lead Lola, myself, and Laurel to the guest house. We made a show, or better to say we made sure to not make a show of how many people we had in our clan. There was no one else in sight as we made our way toward the guest house, it was almost like no one else was there, but I knew better. The pine trees worked great on hiding scents so Lola would have no idea how many clan members we had. Once we got into the house I was Mind-link to let me know they put plenty of guards out side and to yell if we needed anything. With that I went to work.
