SOPHIE GARDNER
"Omo! Omo!! Omo!!! You are just as evil as your financial status. And I warned grandmother when she insisted that my son should get married to you. Such an evil woman!" Feral's mother spat, scurrying to Katie's side.
I wasn't stunned by her own attitude. She had shown me how much she despised me the day I stepped into the house. It wasn't shocking to see that she supported and believed Katie. She had been searching for a way to send me out.
"It's fine, Katie. She cannot do you any harm again. We've found her out. Be calm," Feral coaxed in a serene and comforting voice, and assisted her to sit on the couch.
"Sign the f*****g papers and leave, you devil!" Feral shouted, almost raising his hands to hit me, but he controlled himself.
My gaze fell on his grandmother. She was still standing by the door with an indifferent emotion. She was the one who brought me into the Cooper family.
She saw me at the Motherless Babies when she came for community service 5 years ago and grew a liking to me the moment she saw me.
She claimed she loved my spirit and aura and that I would make a good bride for her grandson. Despite knowing, I was an orphan, poor, and uneducated, she accepted me and brought me into her household.
To be honest, she was the kind of grandmother-in-law any woman could pray for. But, having one supporter amid a dozen enemies is similar to having nobody.
I knew she must be blaming herself right now, and I felt bad for that. If only I hadn't fallen into Katie's trap.
"Pen...?" I muttered, stretching my hands.
Feral's brows raised in surprise, but he didn't mutter any word. He instantly concealed his bewilderment with a stern expression and handed a pen to me.
Without wasting another minute, I removed the divorce papers and signed them without reading the conditions.
"Signed. Anything else...?" I asked, glancing at him and ignoring the shock on their faces.
Like... What were they expecting? Should I kneel and start crying and begging for love when it was obvious that we could not work out?
I tried my best. He didn't make it work. Feral didn't make us work.
"Go and pack your things and leave this place. You can't wait till morning again. Your alimony will be sent to your account before dawn," Feral said, taking the divorce paper up and smiling at it.
I couldn't help scoffing. Did he just smile? Does that mean he has been looking for a way to ask for divorce and Katie just gave him an opportunity?
Grandmother, who had been sulking in silence, chipped in, "You can't do that, Feral. Where do you want her to go in the middle of the night? Let her stay here till morning. I will make sure she leaves before any of you wake up. Please, she is a woman, and it's risky for her to move around at this time."
Tears gathered in my eyes as I saw the concern the old woman had for me. Despite failing her, she still cared about my life, unlike the person I called my husband. Oops! He's now my ex-husband.
"I don't...," Feral wanted to talk, but I cut him short.
"Don't worry, grandmother. I will be leaving tonight. I don't want to spend another moment in this suffocating room either," I said, walking toward my bedroom.
Feral's mother sprang up and followed me, "We can't trust her. She can open your safe and steal some of your money. Let me go with her and check what she is packing."
When I got into the bedroom, I walked straight into the closet, took down a small, old box that I kept on top of the wardrobe, and went back out.
In everyone's presence, I unlocked the box and emptied the contents.
"These are my old clothes. The clothes I wore in the Motherless Babies Home before I got married to you. I came to your house with these, and I will be going back with them. Keep your alimony. I don't need your money. I did not marry you for that."
"Oh! Bloody liar. We all know you married my son because he is a billionaire. f**k your gold-digging ass," Feral's mother cursed, butting into my statement.
I took a deep breath and continued, "And for the dress I am putting on, I will get a job and send you the money for the dress soon. Permit me to go with them."
Feral's forehead was crisscrossed as he gave me a glare of puzzlement. His brows creased, and his eyes blinked severely as if he was having a conflict internally, but it was none of my business.
Without much ado, I packed the old clothes into the box and took a last glance at their faces. When my gaze landed on Katie, I could see the sinister smirk at the corner of her lips, but I never reacted. She had won. There was no use crying over spilled milk.
"Grandmother, take care of yourself and don't forget to always use your drugs on time. Thank you for showing me what a mother's love feels like," I gave her a side hug and sauntered out.

I only stopped walking when I got to the bus stop. My legs became weak. The box I was holding onto fell from my hands and I slumped onto the seat. Unhurriedly, my hands found their way to my belly and tears streamed down my face.
"I am sorry, baby. Mummy, has failed you. I can't give you the life I promised anymore."
Yes, I was pregnant. That was one of the surprises I was planning to reveal to him if he had attended our private dinner.
However, I am keeping my baby. I know that I don't have anywhere to go or any money on me, but I will make sure I give my baby a better life and train him not to become a jerk like his father.
I sprawled on the bench in the bus station and in the blink of an eye, I had already drifted off to sleep. I needed to keep my strength for what was to come the next day.
*
When I opened my eyes, the glistening chandelier was the first thing I saw. The last place I went the previous day was the bus stop, so how come there was a chandelier?
Have I been kidnapped?
The thought beeped in my brain and I jumped up.
The surroundings were different from the bus stop. And it took me a while to finally realize that I was in the bedroom.
A bedroom?
Whose bedroom?
I was still lost in my jumbled thoughts when the door opened and a burly man in a suit and a petite lady in an apron strolled in.
When I saw the burly, muscular man, fear gripped me. No doubt, I had been kidnapped.
But how would I pay the ransom when I was as poor as a church rat right now?
"I am sorry, sir. But you have gotten the wrong target. If you kidnap me, there's nobody that will come to save me. I am poor and do not have a dime on me as I speak. Killing me is like wasting innocent blood," I kept giving a thousand and one reasons why I shouldn't be killed and should be released.
They stopped in front of me, glanced at each other, and smiled. Then, to my surprise, they lowered their heads and said in chorus, "Good morning, missus. How was your night?"
I stared at my back, reverted my gaze, and pointed at my chest. "Are you talking to me?" I faltered, jaw dropping.
They both nodded.
"Me...? Do you know who I am? Where am I? "
"Yes. You are our chairman's daughter, and you are at your parent's house."
My eyes widened and my mouth dropped.
"What! Daughter? Parents?
