The Alpha Who Melts The Ice

Chapter 3

Grayson

Nobody was prepared for what happened next.

I have claimed my mate in front of her father, brother and pack mates. Colin stood up, eyes black. I can tell he is fighting control with his wolf, wanting to protect his sister. His beta, in an instant is there, trying to hold him back. Alpha Norris shut his eyes, doing just the same. I can feel irritation building up. These people are trying to get in between me and my Mate which I will never allow. 

Just then, my mate, expressionless, cold stood up quietly, and everyone's eyes fell on her. She removed her hideous glasses and stared at me. That's when I noted her eyes were the most beautiful shade of light gray. She started to speak in a smooth, steady voice...

"I, Celestine Athena Carter of the New Moon Pack, daughter of the Alpha Norris and Luna Catherine Carter of the New Moon pack, am reje..."

She was rejecting me?? "I OBJECT!" I roared" "CELESTINE, CEASE!" That was Alpha Norris, we stood at the same time, our Alpha auras leaking all over the place. In the blink of an eye, Colin swept Les away into the farthest corner of the room. Everyone else were on their knees baring their necks in a submissive stance. 

Alpha Norris was visibly shaking, and in a low, quiet voice that will send shiver down anybody's spine. "Celestine, you know very well that in my pack, it is a major crime to go against the Moon Goddess. Rejecting one's mate is a capital offense."

Les, with the same expressionless face, looked at her father, then to me, and very casually walked out of the room. Muttering to her secretary as being indisposed. Exasperated sighs were released as everyone apparently were holding their breaths. Norris and Colin slumped back in their seats.

Celestine

I am human, raised by werewolves. I abide by the Pack's customs and traditions. I never questioned anything. The Moon Goddess must be playing a joke on me. This must be a huge misunderstanding. I walked out of the war-room, with my assistant hot on my heels.

"Greta, I will be in the armory. Unless a meteor is falling, I am not to be disturbed, am I clear?" She nodded her understanding and mind-linked someone - most probably my father and brother to tell them what I just told her. 

"What the heck was that?" She asked. "OMG Cee, were you about to reject your mate? Alpha Grayson is one of the hottest and most eligible Bachelor! He can give Channing Tatum a run for his money!  That guy is smokin!"

"You're welcome to him. I don't want a mate. I don't need a mate." I replied.

On the way to the armory, Greta has been showing me photos and articles about Grayson Lark. He's one of those modern-alphas. Most werewolf packs choose to live in seclusion, having minimal interaction with humans as much as possible. Grayson, on the other hand, thrives with humans. I'm sure his real identity is kept hidden, but he has multiple multi million dollar businesses up along the west coast. In every photo he has a different woman on tow. He's a playboy. I hate playboys.

Our armory is HUGE. It is a separate building in the compound. The walls are lined with an array of weapons -ancient and new. "Hello babies, who wants to play with me today?" I spoke to no one but the assortment of handguns. I reached out for the Beretta, ammunitions and I am off to the ranges. 

Grayson

My mate just walked out of the room. She walked past me and I can't help but feel intoxicated with her scent. I was about to go after her, I want to talk some sense into her, when Norris spoke. "Let her. She needs to blow off some steam. Give her a few moments to think." I nodded at that. 

"Are you sure Les is your mate, Alpha?" This was Colin. Worry was etched all over his face.

"Yes. I am sure." I said.

"Everyone leave." Norris ordered. Everyone files out of the room, his Beta, Shawn being the last one shut the doors behind him.

"I need a drink." Collin stood and in one part of the room is a mini bar. He brought three glasses and a bottle of scotch. He then poured everyone a shot.

Norris took a big swig and proceeded to talk. "You know that my daughter is human, correct?"

"Yes I am aware" I said. What is he leading to?

"Celestine is a gift from the Moon Goddess herself. You see, when my wife was pregnant, she was pregnant with Twins, but one pup was stillborn. Colin here is the only one that survived. On that same night, border patrol found a baby abandoned just outside the perimeter at the edge of the forest. Doctors said she was just a few hours old. That baby was Celestine. You see, after Catherine gave birth, she passed out and flatlined for a couple of minutes. But when she came back, she claims the Moon Goddess sent her back for her two pups. Two. But Colin is the only one who survived. When she visited the nursery, my wife saw the abandoned baby and took her in. We raised Celestine as our own pup" Norris walked to the windows, his eyes reliving moments from the past.

"We raised her as best as we can. We strived to do good by the Moon Goddess. Celestine, she is... special." There was a small, wistful smile on his face. "My baby girl, she is gifted. She has been blessed and touched by the Moon Goddess herself. You see this operation" Norris swept his arms around. "This was mostly Celestine. Her IQ is way off the charts. Genius, but Human. My wife and I we did everything so she can thrive in the human world. She was sent to school, university, she has been trained to defend herself... that's what we believed is what the Goddess intended for her. "

"What do you mean thrive in the human world? You intend to send her away?" I asked. 

"Yes. We wanted her to live as a human. The werewolf world is not a place for her. She is not safe here" his voice becoming thick and heavy.

Colin continued "In the human world, my sister can rival f*****g wonder woman. But let's face it, she's still puny compared to us. We have a lot of enemies, which is why we wanted for Ceecee to live and hide out into the human world, maybe meet a human guy and fall in love and leave this life behind, and the last thing that we wanted was my sister being claimed as a werewolf's mate" Colin hung his head low.

I could not believe my ears. Hide in the human world? She has me. I will protect my mate. "Alphas, I hope you are not undermining my ability to protect what is mine." Just then, Luna Catherine came barging in the room.

"What happened?" Norris explained everything to the Luna. By the end of the narrative, the Luna was quiet, and addressed me. "Alpha Grayson, my daughter is very precious. We cannot go against the Moon Goddess' will. We will trust you with her, However, hurt her, and there will be consequences. We are in the business of war, after all."

"Alphas, Luna, as long as I live and breathe, I will protect my Mate, and cherish her. If only she will give me the time of day" I said.

"Give her time. She just needs to gather her thoughts. You know what, go and collect her from the armory. You see, she cannot use mind link and she will not be answering her phone so if you would be so kind to get her for dinner that would be lovely. Colin, the Alpha has not had a tour of the palace yet, please go with him" And with that, the Luna strolled out of the room. 

I turned to Colin who seem to be mind linking with someone. "Ok bro, it's now safe. Let's go get my sister"

It's now safe? What the f**k is that supposed to mean? I follow him out and across the field to the armory.
