Chapter 14

GRAYSON

The next couple of days went by smoothly. Finally, it's our last day here at the New Moon Pack. The last couple of nights, Celestine has been sleeping in my room, then leaving before dawn breaks.

It's been a couple of hours since I last saw Celestine, and I am already missing her. I dropped by her office to see she's still glued to her computer with the same scrunched up expression.

"Hey, wanna take a break?" I asked her.

"Oh, my god. Yesss" She said as she closed her computer and did a stretch. "Let's get coffee. We have a cafe here that sells unbelievable scones!" She said.

I offered my arm but I let her lead the way. We talked about our day and it feels good that the conversations are now coming naturally, not forced like the first time we met.

We took the jeep and rode to the cafe where a girl, who looked like she was 15 or 16 took our order.

"Lessie! Is this your boyfriend?" The girl asked. I waited as to how Celestine would respond.

"Alpha Grayson, this is Zia. They own the place. Zia, this is Alpha Grayson,, he's... my... ummm.. he's... uhhh..." Celestine started to blush. For the first time since I have met her, she does not have the right words to say, so I decided to help her out.

"Nice to meet you Zia. I'm Celestine's MATE,, so yeah technically that makes me her boyfriend." I said. The two women looked at me with eyes as round as saucers.

"Oh. My. Goddess." Said Zia. "Are you for real?" To that, I nodded. Zia let out a squeal and said she'll be back with our order and that she'll have to tell her mom.

Les looked at me like she cannot believe what I just said. "Why did you say you're... you're my...." again, stammering.

"Because I am, baby. What else would I be? You can introduce me as your boy toy next time if that makes you feel better" I said.

"And when did I become your girlfriend? You haven't even asked me yet." She pouted crossing her arms.

I was about to say that she became mine when I found out we were mates, or probably when she talked with Drake and asked him to accept her, but we were interrupted by Zia and a lady that's an older version of Zia which I presumed is her mom.

"Oooooh as I live and breathe,, I never thought I'd see this day! ooh I am so happy!" She was beaming. "Now you." she pointed to me. "You look like a you've had your fair share of women before. You look like a heart breaker. Now, if you make our Lessie cry you will suffer the wrath of everyone here" She said in a very gentle voice, but I can tell she will make good on her promise.

"Ma'am, I will never hurt Celestine. She is my mate and I will protect her with my life" I solemnly swore. I can't remember how many times I have said that today. The entire pack is over protective of Celestine, they love her like their own. Never have I in my entire life received this many threats. From the warriors, the grounds keepers, some random pack members, and now a cafe owner, all they want is to protect my little mate. She is not the cold, ruthless, brat that the rumors paint her to be.

She seemed satisfied with what I said and they left us in peace. After we are done with our scones and coffee, we decided to head back to the house.

Celestine's phone beeped and she read a text message. "Grayson, my father said he needs to speak with you as soon as we get back to the house." She said as she handed me the car keys. We drove us back to the main house.

Celestine walked me to the library but before I went inside, she held me back. "Look, I think we both know what this "talk" is going to be about. If he gets too much, just holler and I'll come rescue you. I'll just be a few doors down in my office" she said.

"I think I can handle myself, Baby. As long as they don't try and convince me to let you stay or anything like that, I'm good." I said giving her a kiss on the head. I entered the library prepared to face the two alphas who I am sure will also threaten my life just like the rest of the pack has done the last few days.

I entered the door and I was welcomed by the older and younger Alpha, Luna Catherine, The betas and gammas as well as my beta Adam and gamma Brandon.

We were exchanging pleasantries when we heard a gut wrenching scream from somewhere. My heart stopped because I know that voice.

Gunshots followed, then another scream and more gunshots. I was ahead of the pack to find her. Everyone convened to where the sounds were coming from.

We found her on the ground, her back against the wall opposite her office. Her gun trained to an unknown assailant inside the door. When her clip was empty, she released the magazine and reloaded a new one in the same second and continue to fire.

Once she has emptied the clip, she looked at us, her eyes wide in horror. I immediately went to her and pried the gun away and threw it aside. At the same moment, Luna Catherine was on her other side.

"Momma!" Celestine clawed at the Luna burrying herself in her chest. She was sobbing uncontrollably and kept on calling for the Luna.

Colin and Shawn inspected her office for any intruders, but they did not find any. Colin deftly picked up the target that took the brunt of Celestine's bullet. "f**k!" He cursed.

The Luna caught a glimpse of what Colin was holding. It was a flower. A red Salvia. "Take that away, Colin! How did it get in here?!" The Luna was obviously agitated. Her wolf coming to the surface. Her usually composed feature gone. Her eyes turning black and her claws and fangs started to erupt.

A servant girl came forward. "I am sorry Luna, It was dropped off the front door,. It had Ms Les' name on it so I took it to her office." She knelt down. Tears streaming down her face, obviously scared for her life.

Colin ordered his Beta Andrew "Take her down below. Find out if she's working for him. Find out everything. How did this get past security. I want to find out who's responsible for this." Colin said, he is visibly shaking with anger.

Andrew proceeded to drag the poor girl away. "Noooo!! Stop!! She's telling the truth!! I know she is telling the truth!!" Said Les. I pulled her to me and she clung to me desperately and started to cry again. "Grayson, don't let them take her! She's innocent!"

"CELESTINE ATHENA CARTER!" Shawn's booming voice echoed in the corridor. "Looks like you will have your graduation after all. Are you going to face this like a warrior or like a hysterical mess that you are right now?" Shawn said with all authority.

I was about to get up and lay it to Shawn when Celestine clutched my shirt stopping me. "It's alright." She said. She looked at Shawn and nodded. "One hour, we will get the cage ready."

"Norris, no. Stop this. Shawn! Colin!" Luna Catherine was pleading. The men's faces hard, unreadable. Luna Catherine, dropped her head to her hands and sobbed. "Oh, Goddess,, my baby, why does it have to be my baby."

I felt Celestine's sobs stop. I can feel her heartbeat slowing down. she disengaged herself from my arms and when I looked at her, I almost did not recognize her.

Her gray eyes glassed over, she was wearing this odd, cold expression. We stood and she hugged me tight. My cheek to her head as I inhaled her scent. "Grayson." she said quietly. "You and mother, you will stay here. I don't want you to see what's about to happen. If you insist on coming, do not interfere. I need this to be okay. Got it?" Her voice is cold. She let go of me and I felt colder. "Adam, Brandon, make sure he does not do anything crazy. You know the drill." She addressed my men who in turn nodded their heads.

"Come now, mother. I'll tuck you in to bed. You don't need to see this. I will come to you as soon as I'm finished." She helped the Luna up and they walked away.

I looked at the mangled flowers - red salvia. It means "Forever mine". There's a card on the floor. It does not say anything, but the letter M.
