Summer's P. O. V
I went straight to my home this evening.
Yes, I live alone.
As Uncle Benjamin had to live at the packhouse for being the alpha, with his mate and the rest of the members. And the pack pretty much hates me so, I chose to live in my parent's house all on my own, even though there is no one to receive me when I get back home. No warm hugs for me, no one to ask about my day, no one to have dinners with me. So, yeah, it's just me.
After locking the door behind I threw my keys on the table and went to my room to take a warm shower to freshen up my mood a bit. I changed into some comfortable clothes and made my way out to prepare something to eat. You see, I need to feed my hungry stomach at least.
As soon as I finished making my dinner my phone rang, and I knew who was calling. Because not many people call me every day. So I picked up, without bothering to see the caller Id.
"Hey, are you done with your extra work today?" I asked, keeping the phone in between my head and shoulder, while wiping the mess that I had just created in my kitchen.
"Yes, where are you now?" Kaith asked from the other side of the phone.
"Where else? Home." I said, reminding myself what is coming next, as I went to prepare dinner for another one.
"Okay then, I am coming over in fifteen minutes." He hung up right after.
I sighed.
Yes, I am quite used to this, as Kaith always accompanies me whenever he can, from the very beginning. And told you,.. things between him and me never changed, not even for a moment. At least he is the only one who could give me the feeling of what I can call family, making this cold and lonely house as alive as a home should be. So that I don't have to eat alone, always.
I was lost in my own thoughts when the doorbell went off suddenly. So I went to get the door after putting down the food on the dinner table.
"You are earlier than I have expected." I said, when I saw the grinning face of no other than Keith.
"Yes, because I am damn hungry." He made himself in, quickly.
"Ahh! What wonder did you do with your cooking skills? It smells delicious." Throwing his stuff here and there, he made his way into the kitchen as fast as he could and grabbed himself a plate only to go over the dinner table with all his curiosity.
"Spaghetti." I couldn't hold back my chuckle as I saw him behaving just like a kid.
"Go, get yourself a plate quickly or I will eat all of it." Yeah,.. Kaith ordered me as if it is not me but he owns everything around here.
"Go change first. You are stinking. And wash your hands too." Yes, my house is like the second home for him. He even left a few of his stuff here, so that when it is needed he can stay over. I never stopped him, as I live alone, so there was plenty of space for another person to fit in, as I even cleared one of the rooms for all his stuff.
"Okay, I am coming back in minutes, but don't start without me. Okay?" He narrowed his eyes to me in suspicion as if I would leave him to starve by eating all those food alone without him.
Huh, funny.
Anyway, he came back quickly as he promised and we ate together. Then he made himself busy with watching TV, while I went through my online blog, and wrote whatever I needed to.
And if anyone of you is wondering about what do I do for living on my own... then let me tell you, I do work part-time at a cafe, four days in a week,... And today is my off day. So I had nothing much to do for today, except watching TV with Kaith and annoying each other for every little thing.
"Are you staying tonight?" I asked as I was feeling quite tired that I needed my bed very badly.
"I think so and you don't have to stay up, go sleep. I have extra keys, so even if I have to go I'll lock the door. Don't worry." Kaith assured me.
So, I dragged myself to my room and fell on the bed. But I highly doubted that even when I was hell tired, would I be sleeping? Like ever?
Yes, I had long lost my peace along with my sleep. But still, I try every night in the hope that I might get the perfect sleep that I deserve.
But, I think it is not the lucky day for me. As I kept lying in my dark room for so long but sleep never came to me. I tossed and turned on my bed in frustration but still... Nothing.
So, I went out of my house in the middle of the night.
I needed the fresh air badly.
I kept walking on the streets without any destination. Tonight was quiet and dark... only the cold night breeze was there to touch me ever so softly only to blow past.
No, I wasn't afraid to walk alone at late at night, because this is my place...where I grew up. And I am quite used to walking on the empty streets when everyone is sleeping peacefully in their cosy rooms. But I somehow find peace outside, here in the dark. I realized, that while leaving a pathetic life full of darkness, I started to love the dark more than light. The dark gives me a bit of peace, where there is no one to judge, no one to hate, no one to recognize who you actually are, no one to ask your worth,...it shows no kind of feelings at all, which is better than showing one's ugly heart.
So, I love this solitude.
It's good that I am wearing a hoody, cause tonight is a bit cold. Though the jacket is quite big for my size as it is Keith's obviously, but I didn't mind to slip into it as I found it only, on my way out.
I don't know for how long I kept walking, but I saw something in front of me in the dark alley all of a sudden which pulled me out of my thoughts in no time.
I saw a drunk man was dragging a girl forcefully in the middle of the dark street. Maybe they were returning from a night club or something. As I didn't know what were they up to, I decided to stop on my tracks to watch them for some time from a distance.
Soon it became clear to me what that man was trying to do, as soon as I heard the girl screaming for help. And that was when I snapped.
Even before the man could realise that there was another person except them, I reached for his hand, taking it off from the girl and twisted it in no time, causing him to scream in pain as I successfully broke one or two bones for sure.
"You bitch." He screamed resonating the whole surrounding with his voice, and fell on the ground. And I cared least.
"You okay?" I asked the girl who was crying in fear, and nodded only, unable to form a word out of her mouth.
"Good. Where do you live? I'll get you back home." I assured her as she showed me the way.
But when I was about to head towards the direction with that girl, I heard another commotion behind my back, causing me to turn around again.
I totally forgot about that bastard, who was still able to stand and attack from behind, even though I broke his arm totally.
But no,
When I turned around, he wasn't standing anymore, instead, he was lying on the ground and screaming horribly in tremendous pain, because his another arm got broken brutally, by... by someone I only realised now was standing across us.
"Even if you are brave, you have to watch your back sometimes, you girl." The strange man spoke out in his deep voice. I couldn't figure out his face, as the surrounding was really really dark. And on top of that, the strange big guy was wearing a hoody covering half of his face.
But even before I could say thanks for his sudden interference, he turned around and left, leaving that bastard totally disabled to move.
On my entire way, I kept wondering who was that guy?
I knew, one could easily see guys like that bastard before, in late-night streets, who beat up people, r**e girls and do other bad things. As if they are everywhere to harm others, but never saw someone like that strange man, who could even help without looking for any benefit out of it.
Anyway,
I sent the girl at her doorstep, and started walking on my way back to home.
But this time, I never bothered to think about how pathetic my life is, instead the strange man filled my mind unconsciously.
Who could it be?
I wondered realizing that even in the dark there still can be some light that we often fail to see.
Maybe, he was the light, or maybe not.
But all I know for now, that I have started to love the dark.
I went home that night only to see a grumpy Kaith was sitting on the sofa with his all messy bed hair, red eyes, while tapping his foot on the floor with a stern gaze on me, as soon as I entered.
"Where the hell did you go in the middle of the night." Kaith started to scream like a kid.
"I couldn't sleep again, so I went out for a walk." I tried to calm him down but no,... Who listens to others nowadays.
"Yeah, right. You went alone for a walk at this late hours without any fear in your heart, just the day after someone broke your bike down, for goddess knows what reason. And you expect me to stay calm?" He started yelling at me non stop... and then I realized what he had just said in between his words.
"You knew?" I asked with my wide eyes.
"What?" He asked with frustration.
"About my bike." I replied, while waiting for his reply, only when he realized too what he had just spilt out.
"Yeah, what do you think? You can lie to me that easily? And I won't even look after my best friend's matters?" He said after a sigh.
"And now, go to bed. Don't even think about sneaking out." Yeah,... He ordered me again.
"I didn't sneak out though... " I tried to talk but...
"I don't want to listen to any excuses now, Sam. Go to bed." With that, he went to his own room to sleep his head off, while I went to mine to try again to sleep for a bit.
Just when I went beside my window to draw the curtains down, I saw him again.
Yes,
The mysterious, strange guy from tonight.
I saw him passing by my house, still unable to see his face as his head was covered under the hood of his jacket while he walked by, looking down on the street with both his hands placed in the pockets.
Was he following me the entire time?
Or was he making sure of my safety from a distance?
No, that can't happen.
He doesn't even know me.
Now I really doubt what I had thought about him earlier.
He could be dangerous too.
Just as the slightest light in the dark makes the surrounding even darker.
