The detention centre was on the sixth floor of Justice Keeper HQ. Melissa hated coming here. Double doors slid apart to reveal a reception area with a horseshoe desk. As always, there were three Keepers on duty, but she only recognized one. Special Agent Taro Paleen looked up to frown at her, but then he nodded. “Agent Carlson,” he said in a brusque voice. “You know I can"t let you in to see the prisoner, right?” Standing before him with hands clasped in front of herself, Melissa bowed her head respectfully. “I was hoping,” she began, stepping forward, “that you"d make an exception for me.” He shook his head.
