5 years later
I was excited.
I finally got a descent, well paying job after five years. Five years of struggle and torture.
A year after Tristan left, I got a better offer at a big company and I was so happy. Finally change had come, atleast that was what i thought. I foolishly resigned from my job, only to get there and the boss wanted to sleep with me first before actually giving me a job.
I was so disappointed.
Ofcourse I didn't agree to it and went back to my former job but sadly, they had already replaced me.
I was shattered.
I had to go find something else. I started working as a waitress in a small restaurant, which was as frustrating as hell but I had no choice. It was all I had.
So you can see why I was so happy I finally got something better and deserving. At first, when I went for the interview, I was so scared it would turn out like the former but I was glad it didn't.
I got the job. I was now officially the personal assistant to the CEO of Reno enterprises and trust me, the salary was the best part of this job so far. I couldn't wait to start already.
I dressed in my corporate wear and put on a pair of heels. It was my first day so I wanted to look as presentable as I can be in order to make a good first impression, especially on my boss, seeming as I didn't get the chance to meet him on the day of the interview.
"Good luck on your first day babe" Josh came up behind me and hugged me.
Yeah, about that. Josh was my new boyfriend.
It took me so long to get over Tristan. After I searched him in every way I could, I gave up. He never answered my calls or returned them. It was like he never even loved me at all.
I spent a few weeks crying and regretting everything because it was all my fault he left. I never really forgave myself much for it. so after four years of being unable to get him out of my head, I decided to let go and move on and the only way I could do that was to start dating again. So I joined a dating site and I met josh.
He was a sweet guy and he made me forget all about Tristan, even though we had only been dating for six months.
I also moved into his apartment because well, I couldn't keep up the rent of my place so I gave it up and went back to my mothers house. After a month of getting to know josh, he told me to come live with him. I thought it was too soon but I took the offer either ways, anything was better than living with my mom. She gave me a daily dose of frustration.
Ever since I moved in with josh. It had been great, he made sure to take care of me and he also made sure to pay all the bills just so my little salary could be with me. He had a well paying job as well and he loved me so much.
I just was scared that I didn't love him as much as he did love me.
"Thanks babe" I smile cheerfully at him.
"Let me drop you off" he said and grabbed my bag for me.
"You sure you got time, I don't want you late for work" I told him
"I always got time for you" he said and kissed me.
He drove me all the way to work and wished me good luck again before I got down from his car. I waved him off and watched him drive away before I turned around and headed into the huge building.
The glass doors opened automatically for me as I approached and I felt a thrill of excitement. With a smile on my face, I walked in, through the lobby and then passed a couple of people seated behind their work desks.
Actually there were so many work desks arranged in a friendly manner, leaving a smooth path to the elevator.
I entered the elevator and went straight to the third floor.
The desks on the third floor were fewer and more spaced.
I got to my desk and settled in, getting comfortable on my very comfy seat. On my desk, there was a computer sitting at the centre, a telephone by the extreme end, a cup of pens and a few files close to it.
I smiled a satisfactory smile and looked around the room. I noticed the empty desk that was next to me, just a few feet's away. Others were quite far away at the other end of the room.
I pulled out my phone from my bag, wanting to take a picture of myself and my new work desk but then, I heard voices just after the sound of the elevator. When I noticed a man in black suit and about three people following behind him, I knew that had to ne him.
My new boss.
I quickly put my phone away and stood up, straightening myself. I was waiting to greet him and also make a good impression.
So I stood and watched them as they approached my direction. Then I noticed that the closer they got, the more familiar the face of the man became. I was still wondering why his face was familiar until he stopped in front of my desk the very moment he layed eyes on me. The shock on his face was unmistakable.
My whole body paralysed and I felt a chill of horror run through me.
It was Tristan. My ex.
His shock was immediately replaced with anger. Mine on the other hand was replaced with fear and anxiety.
"This is your new PA sir" a young man behind him introduced. He didn't say anything, just glared at me. The lady and the two young men had to look at one another, probably wondering what the hell was going on.
I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat, not daring to move or even speak.
After what felt like hours, he tore his eyes away from me and walked straight to the door opposite from me, the three of them following behind.
As soon as the door closed, my hand flew to my chest as if i was trying to stop my heart from pounding. I slowly sat down on my seat and all I could think of was..
I was going to loose this job.
There was no way he would let me stay here after what happened between us.
Oh God.
The anxiety in me kept growing by the second but I couldn't help but think.
How?
Was he really my boss? The CEO?
How did it happen?
Five years was not enough to own a company as big as this?
No, I had to be dreaming.
I heard the door open and all three of them came out of the office. While the both men went their way, the lady approached my desk and said....
"Jennifer smith" she called, "The boss wants you in his office now" she said and then walked away.
And that confirmed it.
The boss aka the CEO of Reno enterprises was my ex.
