PA Duties

1146 Words
I opened the file Tristan...Mr Gray gave to me earlier. It looked like a work document but there was a separate slip just on top of the rest. It read 'Responsibilities of the personal assistant' I read through it quickly despite the fact that I already knew all I was supposed to do. I just read it to make sure I didn't miss anything. I was surprised to see the very last number on the list. "I'm guessing that's your duties?" April asked me. "Coffee runs every morning" I said in disbelief. I didn't know what I had in mind but I just thought, for a company as big as this, there would be someone separate cut out for this particular job. "Well that's new" April commented. "What is?" I asked "The boss always gets his coffee himself. I guess things have changed now" she shrugged and continued what she was doing. I just stared, lost in thought. Was he just trying to relieve himself or was this going to be some sort of punishment in the near future. I couldn't help but be worried about every single thing. "Oh don't be like that" April said she she noticed my mood, "I'm sure you will be fine" she assured me. "Although, Mr Gray is usually very strict and hard on every staff here but he is a good man with kind heart" she added. Considering the fact that he hadn't forgiven me for the past, I was sure he was going to be ten times harder on me. God help me. After that, i got straight to work. Went through all the files, checked his appointments and everything. When it was twelve o'clock aka lunch break, April lead me to the second floor where the cafeteria was. It was quite a big hall with tables and chairs arranged nicely, just like a high school cafeteria. Only this wasn't noisy and overcrowded. We got our food which was surprisingly free according to what April told me, and then settled down on a table by the window. "So how long have you been working here?" I said, trying to make conversation. "About six years" she answered. "Oh wow, that's a really long time" I commended. Then it occured to me that if she had been working here that long, she might know how Tristan became the CEO because apparently, five years ago, Tristan was with me. That only meant that this company existed before he left. I truly had a lot of questions. Questions only him could answer but I wouldn't dare to ask him. "Has Tris...Mr Gray always been the CEO?" Damn, it was going to be hard for me to cover up our past relationship if I couldn't even refer to him as Mr Gray. This would have been easier if I didn't know him at all. That way I wouldn't have any problems being so formal. "Oh no, it was Mr Gray's best friend who was the CEO before he passed away two years ago" she informed me. Best friend? Tristan didn't have best friend. I was about to ask another question when two young men interrupted us. "Mind if we join?" One with blonde ruffled hair asked with a smiley face. "Ofcourse" April answered with a wide smile of her face and they both took their seat beside us. I could tell just by the red tint that appeared on April's cheeks that she had a crush on the blonde. "You must be the new PA, I'm Tony" the second one with brown hair introduced himself to me. "Hugo" the blonde waved at me "Jenny" I said with a smile. The one hour lunch break went by with April telling me as much as she could remember about the company, although nothing about Tristan. I also couldn't ignore the way April looked at Hugo. I knew that look all too well. It reminded me of myself back on college. I use to look at Tristan that way, back then when he didn't know I had feelings for him. I wondered if that was the situation between Hugo and April. Although He was paying a lot of attention to her, unlike Tristan and I. He had no clue. Why was I even thinking about Tristan. I was back on my desk, typing away on my phone since i didnt have any work at the moment, when suddenly the telephone on my desk rang and I almost jumped. I quickly turned my head to check if April or anyone saw me. Thankfully no one saw me. I looked at the telephone and grabbed it, puting it to my ear. "My office, now" the command in his tone was unmistakable. I dropped tje phone, sucking in a deep breath befoee getting up. I walked into his office and closed the door behind me. "You called for me Mr Gray" I said as formally as I could. I needed to focus on the fact that he was now my boss and forget the fact that he was my ex if I wanted to keep my job. "I need you to go through these files" he said, not looking up from his computer. I looked down at the files on the edge of his desk, directly in front of me and picked it up. "File a report and get it to me ASAP" he still didn't look up. "Also, check all my appointments for this week, and make preparations for my trip this weekend. I have a conference meeting in Dubai" I bit my lip, feeling disappointed he didn't look at me. I still couldn't believe all of this, it all looked like a dream. Why did I want him to look at me? I stood there with thw file in my hand, stalling a little but when I saw he wouldn't budge, I said.... "Okay sir" then I turned around to leave but his voice stopped me. "Lastly..." I turned around and saw that he was finally looking up at me. "...Do not wear such short skirts like this to work again" What? I looked down at my black pencil skirt. I can assure you it was not in any way short. It was just a few inches above my knee. "But.." I tried to argue but he cut me off instantly. "You can leave now" he dismissed and looked back to what he was doing. my mouth was left hanging as I stared at him baffled. After a long moment, I closed my mouth and left his office. When I got to my desk, I looked around for the few women just to inspect their skirt or dress. It just same length as mine. April's skirt was even shorter than mine. It was then I realised that this wasn't just about my skirt, it was about me.
