CHAPTER ELEVEN

(ANNA)

When I spoke with Diana grandma this morning before going to the compound ground she asked if am sure about taking the quests, my reply to her was yes, I know some will think my decision was fast but even if I wait for days the result will still be the same and am the kind of person who likes to get things done immediately instead of wasting time and since am already determined there’s no going back, which is the reason why when she told me she saw a vision of Scott and the others stopping me from going through with the quests I decided then not to meet them before the quest start, I even convinced the other candidates to let’s start before 9:00am which is the schedule time for the quest I was glad they agree to it.

Seeing them sitting at the front role assign for family members makes my heart rejoice, it felt good to know am not alone in this, I can see on their faces that they were anxious especially Cassandra who keep biting her nail with a worried look I hope she didn’t see my death in one of her visions.

I don’t like them being worried, I might not be experience in this kind of fight but I’ve never lost a fight before, even when I was young I always beat up the older boys in my school and over the years I’ve been taking self-defense class. So am confident that I will pass the first quest, since no power will be use on the candidates in this quest just a hand to hand combat which am good at so I know I will be fine.

when I finish the first quest I face my friends who are now like a family to me with a smile on my face, the look on their faces was priceless they all have a shocking expression on, I guess they didn’t know I can be quite brutal.

I look in the direction of my opponents they were all carried out of the ring with stretchers I smiled to myself, the first mistake they did was underestimating me thinking I might not be much of an opponent because I just know of them and I’ve not be trained before.

The announcer told every candidate that pass the first round of the quests to get ready for the second which is also the last quest, I could feel everyone tensed up at the mention of this.

This have been going on since I’ve been here this morning, people tensed up at the mention of the veil quest, am sure it has something to do with why some of the guardians I saw this morning have loosing limbs and parts.

The feature of the girl beside me change, she looks fiercer like she was about to battle whatever she came across in the veil, I hope it isn’t me. I guess I also have to prepare myself for what’s coming next.

The announcer told everyone to move in the direction of the veil, at first I was confuse because I couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary then suddenly a portal appear, at first it was small and it started getting bigger and clearer until it shows what looks like a forest, I kept looking waiting for something out of the ordinary to happen but everything seems just fine and normal except for the portal that brought the veil here, I was told this morning that the veil will be brought and open by magic and it will be guarded by the keeper guardians who are the only one with the ability to call the veil and send it back to where it comes from which no one knows except for the gate keepers.

“candidates, you are about to enter the veil so you are allowed to take just one weapon with you, there are varieties of weapon that you can choose from, take one and enter the veil for your last quest to be a guardian, may fate guild you.”

I choose a sword and move in the direction of the veil, as I step closer it felts like a wave coming from it pulls me in.

“Anna, Anna wake up, she should have been awake its three days already.”

the voice sound like Scott but I know it’s impossible I just step into the veil there’s no way Scott will be here.

“I think she’s waking up,” someone said.

I open my eyes to find everyone looking at me. “Where am I.”

“You are at my place,” Scott said.

“Is this a dream or some test in the quest which I have to pass.”

“This is real Anna.” Cassandra move forward and seat on the bed. the quest was three days ago; you pass out after you came out of the veil.”

“What! I stand up to see my hand and leg bandage up, “What happen.”

“We don’t know. That’s what we would like you to answer.” Scott said. “What happen in there, and why did you have burn mark?”

“What do you mean burn mark.” I accessed my body and notice some bruises and burn mark on my body, “how did this happen?” I ask them.

“I don’t think she remember anything” Sasha said.

“Am not even that surprise that she doesn’t remember a thing, no one comes out of the veil and talks about what happen in there, what if their memory was wiped.” Scott said angrily.

“Calm down brother” Maddox advice, “Am sure there would be an explanation for this, wont there?” he asked wrathfully facing Diana.

“It might be shock or she was hit by something” she explained. “She’s not supposed to lose her memory; am sure after some rest she will recover. For the people who didn’t say what happen to them inside the veil to outsiders, it’s their choice not the compound manipulation, the compound will not intentionally harm any candidates, as for those who got injured during the quests it’s not the compound fault either each candidates knows what they are getting into, and what each candidate face during the quest is not plant by the compound its nature taking its own course. The veil has been around for centuries and generations of guardians have gone through it, it’s not man made and no one plant gift or abilities inside to give to the candidates. It’s an alternate universe that only the realm or keeper guardians can open. It’s a gift given to my ancestors by the oracle of fate for their courage in helping the weak”.

“Am curious what the inside of this veil looks like,” Cassandra muttered.

“It’s like another world, to each candidate its different some said they have to pass through sea to get to dry land in other to finish the quest, others said they have to pass from one forest to another while battling the creatures in each forest, there are a lot of different stories so we can’t say this is what the veil looks like specifically.”

“That’s just f****d up, at least she made it out alive even if she is a little banged up.” Sia cheered trying to make everyone lightens up instead of the negative mood everyone is in.

“Guys don’t worry am sure the lost memory is just temporary after some rest I’ll be fine.”

With a frown Scott replied her “You’ve been resting for three days.”

I look at his face and notice small dark circles under his eyes, he looks exhausted and this make me feel guilty for making him worried about me.

“Scott am fine, and i’ve been healing the past three days not resting. I think you need a rest yourself.”

“She has a point brother, you barely sleep the past few days you’ve been taking care of her I think now that she’s awake you need to rest, who knows things may have change by the time you are awake.

“How can I sleep in this kind of situation, my mate is unwell, I should have send someone inside the veil with her, am sure there would have been a way for someone who isn’t a guardian to enter. What kind of mate am I if I can’t protect my female?”

“You don’t have to blame yourself and I don’t think there is a way for anyone who is not a guardian to enter the veil.” The look on everyone’s face make me to stop talking. “What? Why are you all looking at me like that.”

“Did you just read my mind.” Scott asked.

“That’s impossible, what are you talking about?”

“You just respond to what am thinking, I didn’t say the word out loud. You give a reply to what I was thinking to myself.”

“Well, we don’t have to wonder if she passes the quests, the proof just show itself.” Maddox said with a smile.

With an eye roll Sasha respond, “Of course she passes the quests she comes out with a new sword and a chain.”

“It’s just not any sword it Excalibur everyone in the supernatural world have heard of it though no one have seen it not until three days ago.it is a very powerful weapon capable of destroying any supernatural being and the second item is a magical whip not a chain.” Diana give Sasha a hard glare

“I’m sorry I don’t know and you don’t have to give me that look, to me it looks like a chain and a sword who knows it has significant meaning attached to it.”

“Everyone there that day knows, well except for you, and the whip is not a normal whip when I touch it I got burned so whatever it is I guess it burn any opponent.”

“Do you think that’s how she got the burn mark on her.”

“I don’t think so, whatever burn her is real fire not a simple burn from an object.”

“Thank God she’s healing fast; I guess that’s another ability she gets from the quests.” Scott respond while rubbing the scruff on his face.

“If they’re choosing a winner for this quests I think she will be the one, I don’t think the other candidates comes out with these multiple abilities. sword, whip, mind reading and fast healing, I think it’s amazing.” Cassandra said.

“No winner is chosen after the quests, everyone who finish the quests is a winner.” Diana respond to her, “And yes she’s the only one out of the candidates with multiple abilities.”

“How is the other candidates.” I asked them

“Not as banged up as you.” Sasha reply.

I try to sit up but Scott rush to my side and help me. “Take it easy you were badly injured I don’t think you should strain yourself for the time being till you are finally healed.”

“Am starving is there any food,” I ask him.

“I will tell my housekeeper to make something for you.”

“I think she already make preparations I can smell waffles and coffee,” with a sigh she continues to sniff the air, “And also steak, bacon and cheese casserole, wow that’s a lot of food is this how you eat every day.”

“You can smell all that.” Diana asked with a shocked expression.

“Yeah, can’t you.”

“Sweetheart you and I with Maddox here are the only people in this room who can smell that Scott said with a smile, I think you have a heighten sense of smell too.”

“Wow! I also want to go for the quests.” Sasha said.

“This keeps getting interesting.” Maddox said thoughtfully.

A woman come in and serve everyone, I scarfed the food down within a minute, I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I start eating.

“You must be really hungry.” Maddox said smiling at me, I glance at everyone plate and see that their food was half eaten, I shrug, am sure if any of them was in my position they would do the same.

Scott put some more food on my plate and I finish that too.

“Being unconscious for three days must have given you a big appetite.” Cassandra said.
