“I DON’T UNDERSTAND how the river patrol heard the shots,” Jim said. “Don’t the motors on those boats make a lot of noise?”
“My guess is they were taking a little unauthorized break and had their motor idling,” I said. “But in light of their success, I don’t think they’ll be questioned too closely.”
“That’s it, then,” Mike said.
“Not quite. We’re going to have to take two cars to the Y in the morning so I can go downtown to go through the paperwork and write a report. I wish the captain was here.”
“Why?” Mike said.
