Chapter 29: A Night In France

1169 Words

Antoinette's PoV: The letter arrived two weeks after Will left. I'd spent those nights with Carmen, talking and trying to forget my life, so when Sophie gave me the letter it only felt natural that I'd wait until I could show Carmen to read it. There was something utterly mesmerizing about Carmen, something that drew me to her like a magnet, like a ship returning to harbor. Maybe it was just because she was a vampire, or maybe it was something else entirely. Whatever it was, the more I spent time with her the more I longed to be near her. We weren't exactly friends, not really. We insulted each other and bickered, sometimes I asked the wrong question and Carmen would just clam up completely. It was hard to predict, but I understood. There were things I was happier not talking about, too.
