Chapter 2

1593 Words
Where's Serena? “We can't be doing this, Serena. Have you forgotten what your father is capable of doing to you when you get home?” Nadia reminded Serena and scolded her like her kid sister. She said countless nasty things to Serena, and they got under her thick skin. She wasn't bothered about Serena's emotions. If getting Serena angry is what it takes to make her act right again, then she is ready to do that a thousand times. “I'm sorry,” Serena finally apologized after a brief silence. “I had no intention of getting on your nerves. I am just frustrated with the whole issue.” The yelling worked on her eventually. Violence was the only language Serena understood. It just dawned on her that she's not been fair to Nadia. Not everyone will be willing to make these huge sacrifices for their friends. “It's fine.” Nadia lifts Serena off the ground. “You did nothing wrong. I understand your plight. I would have done the same thing if I were in your position.” “You are the best, Nadia.” Serena embraced Nadia, tiny tears running down her cheeks. “I promise not to nag any more until we arrive at our destination,” Serena vowed. That wasn't her first time embracing Nadia, but there's something about the way she did it that convinced Nadia that her friend was back. She missed this version of Serena. She only wishes that Serena would keep up with this attitude until they arrive at Crest Fall Town. ____ It's been over two years since Serena escaped from the blood moon pack, and no one has heard a word from her. Her father is worried about her. Every night, he sulks to sleep while thinking about Serena and how she is coping in a strange land. “Is she safe? Where did I go wrong? Why has the moon goddess decided to punish me like this?” Alpha Benjamin lamented as he paced around his chambers like a wounded soldier. He's not a coffee drinker, but he spent the last night thinking about whether Serena would ever return home alive. He still can't fathom why Serena has to elope from the pack because the last time he checked, they never had any argument. The night before Serena ran away from the blood moon pack, she and her father had a spirited conversation about the arranged marriage between Douglas and Serena. “He is a good man. You have nothing to worry about,” Douglas had advised Serena repeatedly. While the conversation lasted, Serena never argued or opposed her father's warning. She never gave her father the slightest clue that she intended to escape. “How I wish my wife were alive to witness this. She would have a perfect solution,” he sulked as he remembered Alice, his late wife. She was the best thing that ever happened to him until the harbinger of death came knocking on the door. Alice possessed the IQ of five people combined. Benjamin always runs to Alice whenever the pack is in ruins. Most of the pack members have no idea that Alice is the brain behind the progress of the pack. She makes some significant decisions behind the scenes. Five years after her death, Benjamin is clueless. He can barely think straight to save his life. In the process of trying to find a solution to his problem, Benjamin hears a knock on his door. It was so loud that it made him panic. “Speak or forever remain mute!” he roared without confirming who was at the door. He hated to be interrupted, especially when he was having his quiet moment. “It's Anthony, my Alpha. I bring good news,” then came a voice. At the mention of Anthony's name, Benjamin's anger got even worse. He was perplexed. Anthony is the last person he wants to speak with right now. The last time Anthony was in his chambers, he gave negative feedback about Serena's whereabouts. “Come in,” Benjamin said. He wasn't sure if it was a good idea to welcome Anthony, but he was willing to take the big risk. Majestically, like a millipede, Anthony gestured to the chambers. He had a smile on his face as though he just won a lottery. The smile is somewhat fascinating for Benjamin. He hasn't heard Anthony speak, but he's hoping for the best. “Greetings, my Alpha. May you reign forever,” Anthony bows on one knee. He has his gaze focused on the ground. More like he wants to kiss Benjamin's feet. “Be on your feet and speak, Anthony,” Benjamin gave the order as he leaned towards Anthony. He widened his ears to avoid missing out on whatever information he wanted to disseminate. “Our informant just revealed that Serena is spotted at Crestfall Town alone, my Alpha,” Anthony dropped the bombshell like a missile. His revelation was, however, left unattended to the point that he had to speak again, “My Alpha, your loyal servant awaits your response.” “Halt!” With an upraised arm, Benjamin stopped Anthony from speaking. He needs a minute to process what he just heard. He wants to be certain it's not a fluke. “Are you sure about this?” he asked nicely. He gripped Antony's shirt and nearly choked him to death. “I promise you, I'm gonna cut your tongue and feed it to the wolves in the woods if this turns out to be a joke," he threatened Anthony. He also gave Anthony an opportunity of a lifetime to debunk what he just said and save his life. “I'm dying, my Alpha. Please let me go,” Anthony gasped for air as he struggled to get away from Benjamin's sharp claws. Unfortunately for him, Benjamin was too strong for him to handle. Aggressively, Benjamin tossed Anthony to the floor. As though that weren't enough, he walked towards Anthony with fire in his eyes. Anthony watched helplessly on the ground. He was too weak to stand up or even edge backwards. “Now listen to me,” he goes down to Anthony's level. “Ensure you do everything possible to find my daughter and bring her home.” “Don't even think of coming back without her because it will be your last," he dragged Anthony's ears to allow the warning to penetrate past his ears. Anthony nodded in response. His lips had suddenly become too heavy to be moved. He stood off the ground with the last strength left inside of him before running outside. Twice, he has survived Benjamin's wrath. He is so sure that he won't survive the last one. Anthony rushes to the training ground to summon the rest of the busy soldiers testing each other's strength. The minute they saw Anthony, they all stopped to pay their respects to him. “I need you all to listen attentively,” Anthony said, making the first speech since arriving at the training ground. “News reaching me now is that Serena, the Alpha's lost daughter, has been spotted around that Crest Fall Town,” he announced There was an uproar among the soldiers. While some of them argued like barbarians, the others stared in the utmost confusion. “How authentic is this information?” Andrew spoke on behalf of everyone. The question had been on his lips for so long that he just couldn't keep it to himself forever. "My source is legit. Get ready because we are departing immediately. Prepare the chariot for our departure,” Anthony instructed everyone. As the Alpha's Beta, no one dares to disobey his orders. They are aware that disobeying Anthony equally means stepping on the toes of the alpha. “We are ready to leave now,” Joshua said, showing up with the latest update. He wasn't wrong when he spoke about getting ready to find Serena. “This is good,” Anthony said, smiling. He was impressed by what he had seen so far. Quickly, he rushed to enter the first chariot as they all drove to the crestfall town. They had the chariot loaded with some sophisticated weapons. They had no plans of spilling blood. But should anyone stand in their way, they wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. After a five-hour journey, they finally arrived at Crestfall Town. The soldiers were exhausted but still willing to endure the stress. They were hoping that Alpha Benjamin would reward them for a successful operation. “I need two people to accompany me to the house where Serena lives now,” Anthony disclosed. When he saw that they were reluctant to join him, he was forced to appoint two people. Joshua and James. Like a thief at night, they sneaked to the cream-coloured, faded-walls flat that was described by Anthony's informant. The environment irks Anthony. It's nothing compared to the castle at the Blood Moon Pack. Anthony can't understand why Serena chose to settle for a place like this when her father has everything every daughter will wish for. Serena was about to head outside the living room when she spotted the troops of soldiers outside with their loaded weapons. Her heart sank. The only question running through her head was, “How did they find me here? It's been two years since I left the blood moon pack.” She could have sworn that her location was hidden from everyone, including her father.
