Ezra felt incredibly energized and focused on the task at hand when he got up. To begin
her day, she showered and put on her clothes. Her beautiful ebony eyes were
shadowed by her long lashes, and long blonde hair cascaded down her back nearly
gave her .
She pulled out a red flowery gown, tucked it into her black high-heeled shoes, and
wrapped a scarf around her neck. She left and took a taxi to her place of employment.
Now, she worked at Vertex Capital, a company owned by Evan Miller, as an employee.
Evan worked from home most of the time, but he visited the headquarters when
needed. As his secretary, Ezra"s role was to refer him to all relevant information,
documents, reports, complaints, and other items. As long as she performed her job with
diligence, Evan did not find her new identity bothersome and was quite fine with it.
Although he never treated her badly, he ignored her persistence in pursuing peace
between the Montgomery and Alabaster family.
Her and Evan"s offices were on the top floor, so she rode the elevator up. Her
comfortable workspace was right next to Evans"s office.
As soon as she sat down, she clicked on her laptop and saw that her boss was on his
way via email.
She was not expecting him to show up so soon; usually, he gives her a few hours"
notice. While waiting for her boss to arrive, she attempted to organize her paperwork.
Evan arrived looking dapper in a black tuxedo with a bow tie. His hair was silky and
waved to the back, with a slender curling hair strand falling just above his left eye.
His broad shoulders accentuate his solid frame, and his face is nicely chiseled. He
approached Ezra, who was arranging some documents and seemed perplexed.
"Good morning. Please prepare the documentation for the life insurance. Make contact
with all bank insurance departments and inform them that I require a succinct report
from each by the end of the workday." Alpha Evan gave the command.
"Yes, sir," Ezra curtly and amiably answered.
Two armed guards stood at the entrance as Evan entered his office. Ezra promptly
followed the instructions and sent a mail. Then, she gathered some paperwork and
entered Alpha Evan"s office.
Ezra stood at attention in Alpha Evan"s office, her arms steady as she placed the folders
meticulously on his polished mahogany desk. She noticed the weight of his gaze as he
scrutinized each document, his brow furrowing slightly in concentration.
"Here are the paperwork, sir," Ezra stated evenly, her voice betraying none of the
curiosity bubbling within her.
Alpha Evan looked up from the paperwork, his expression grave. "Thank you, Ezra," he
said, his tone terse. "Please, have a seat."
Ezra obliged, lowering herself gracefully into the chair opposite Alpha Evan"s desk. She
couldn"t help but notice the tension in the air, a palpable sense of urgency that seemed
to hang over the room like a thick fog.
"Sir, is there an urgent matter or emergency?" Ezra inquired, her composure
unwavering. "You appear overly serious right now."
Evan leaned back in his chair. "From now on, I will be attending work more frequently,"
he began, his voice measured. "I have to put in more effort into managing both my staff
and the business before it fails."
Ezra nodded in understanding, though her mind raced with questions. "I requested
those records and reports because the majority of them are not performing their duties,"
Evan continued, his gaze fixed on Ezra. "We need to address these issues before they
escalate any further."
"I see," Ezra replied, her mind already strategizing potential solutions. "Is there any way
I can assist you?"
Evan shook his head, a hint of frustration creeping into his expression. "At this point,
there is nothing you can do," he admitted. "You will just need to wait for any further
instructions from me. It"s not like you have any ability to assist me in managing the
business."
Ezra"s professionalism prevented her from showing any outward signs of
disappointment, but inwardly, she couldn"t help but feel a pang of frustration at being
sidelined. "Understood," she said simply, masking her emotions behind a neutral
facade.
"Thank you, Ezra," Evan said, his tone dismissive. "You may return to your desk for
now."
With a nod, Ezra rose from her seat and exited Alpha Evan"s office, her mind already
racing with possibilities. As she made her way back to her desk, she couldn"t shake the
feeling that something was amiss within the firm.
In a hurry, she reached for her phone, her fingers flying across the screen as she
searched for information on Vertice Capital and its well-being. Despite the firm"s solid
performance in the assurance and insurance sectors, she couldn"t help but wonder what
might have gone wrong to prompt Alpha Evan"s sudden change in demeanor.
Even as she delved deeper into her research, Ezra remained determined to uncover the
truth behind the challenges facing Vertice Capital and to assist Evan in any way she
could, despite his initial dismissal. For Ezra, the well-being of the firm and its employees
was paramount, and she was prepared to do whatever it took to ensure their success.
As the workday was coming to a conclusion, Ezra would frequently gaze at her boss"s
door, anticipating his arrival at any moment. However, he had to stay indoors the entire
day, and the store was about to close. It appeared as though he would be staying at
that office for a very long time, so she started packing up her belongings to go home.
"Tyler." When Evan eventually left his office, he yelled out to one of his guards.
“Yes, sir.” The man answered right away.
“We are heading to the location I just sent to you. Tell them of my arrival as soon as
possible." Evan did not even glance at Ezra when he stepped out and gave instructions.
He was heading to his favorite pub, where he usually let them know in advance so they
could make the greatest food and drinks.
She heard an announcer from the bank hall"s large TV providing a report as she made
her way to the lobby.
The city of Venton has announced yet another death. The murderous patterns remain
the same as in the past murder cases that we have covered on our channel: multiple
deep cuts across their bodies, particularly on the neck, and dry skin that appears as
though they are dehydrated." As the announcer continued, Ezra looked at the news.
The news even went so far as to feature the announcer fighting with one of the guests.
"I believe—and I am positive—that a vampire is responsible for this. No untamed animal
is capable of this, not withstanding the skin drying off. We are dealing with a demon
here.” The visitor stated.
“Mr. Eric, please refrain from making baseless accusations. You are deceiving the
people. While they continue their search, the police believe they may be tracking a
specific breed of bear.” The presenter shot back.
They argued back and forth over whether or not it was a vampire. For once, Ezra
considered this news, but she was also so puzzled that she was unable to process it.
"All right, let the cops handle this. And thankfully, Santos City has never experienced it."
As she left the bank, Ezra thought to herself.
Of course, after the panic generated by the Alabaster family had subsided, she was so
sure that the succession of killings had not reached their city once more. However, as
soon as she stepped out of the bank hall, the announcer broke another item.
"... Unbelievable! We just learned of another death, although this time it happened in a
different town. The bodies of two women, whose killings followed the identical pattern as
the one we just revealed, were discovered in Santos City. Additionally, they may be
from Santos, which makes them the first reported from that town following the power
play months ago." The TV reverberated, but Ezra had already left to miss this.
