Chapter 2: The Awakening of the Beast

842 Words
The silver whip whistled through the freezing air, slicing downward with lethal intent. Faith closed her eyes and screamed, bracing herself for the inevitable agony. But the blow never came. A sudden, blinding shockwave of golden energy erupted from the riverbank, blasting outward like a detonated bomb. The air crackled with raw electricity. The Lycan guard didn't even have time to vocalize a gasp before the invisible wall of force slammed into his chest, launching his massive frame backward into the dense treeline. The violent sound of snapping branches echoed through the shattered silence of the night. Faith opened her eyes, gasping desperately for breath. She was completely untouched. Trembling, she looked down at her hands. Her skin radiated a faint, receding silver glow that felt warm—almost comforting—against the biting winter chill. What did I just do? Panic seized her. Human territory ended miles ago. If she stayed here, more patrols would inevitably arrive, and next time, she wouldn't survive. Scrambling through the frozen mud, she snatched her worn leather book, forced her numbed legs to move, and sprinted blindly back toward the miserable safety of the human slums. Miles away, within the obsidian throne room of the royal castle, Killian collapsed to his knees. He clutched his chest, his claws tearing through his heavy furs. The silver-veined scar over his heart burned with agonizing heat, as if a branding iron were pressing into his flesh. Yet, it wasn't pain that flooded his veins—it was pure, unadulterated power. A primal, predatory instinct surged through him, violently shattering the shackles of dark magic that had suffocated his soul for two long years. MATE. The word echoed within his consciousness, loud, possessive, and demanding. His wolf, a beast he had mourned as dead, roared to life inside his mind, clawing desperately to break free. She was in danger. His mate was out there, terrified and fleeing for her life. Killian threw his head back, unleashing a primal roar. The sound tore from his throat—a deafening, massive wave of Alpha authority that shattered the stained-glass windows of the tower and shook the very foundations of the fortress. Within seconds, the heavy oak doors of his chambers were kicked open. His Beta, Leo, burst inside alongside a dozen elite warriors, their claws extended and ready for battle. "Alpha!" Leo stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes widening in absolute disbelief. For two agonizing years, they had served a ghost. But standing before them now was the apex predator who had once ruled the supernatural world. Killian stood at his full height, his massive shoulders squared, his golden eyes flashing with a terrifying, lethal brilliance in the gloom. The weakness was entirely gone. "Alpha... your wolf..." Leo breathed, his voice laced with awe. "She’s alive," Killian rasped, the sheer volume of his voice vibrating with raw power. He pointed a commanding finger toward the eastern boundary. "A human girl. At the edge of our territory. Deploy the warriors. Seal the borders. Find her and bring her to me safely." "Right away, Alpha!" Leo saluted, a fierce, feral grin spreading across his face as he rushed out to sound the war alarms. Killian turned to look out the shattered window, his heart thumping wildly against his ribs. Hold on, he thought, staring intensely into the dark horizon. I am coming for you. Down in the dimly lit corridors of the royal castle, a silhouette stepped out from the shadows. Wearing a simple maid’s uniform, she appeared to be a meek, submissive human servant. In reality, she was the architect of the Alpha King's suffering. Through the use of forbidden dark magic, she had altered her identity completely, living under his very roof to achieve her ultimate goal: becoming the undisputed queen of the land. Elena tightened her grip on her apron, her knuckles turning bone-white. She had heard the thunderous roar. She had felt the massive, suffocating shift in the pack's energy. The wolfsbane curse she had meticulously woven to bind Killian’s power was broken. A loyal guard stepped up to her, his voice a frantic, hurried whisper. "Luna Elena... the Alpha's wolf has awakened. He is sending tracking parties to the human border for a girl." Elena’s beautiful face contorted with icy venom. A human girl. A worthless, fragile creature had somehow triggered a mate bond potent enough to unravel ancient dark sorcery. Right now, Killian’s mind was still fractured; the dark magic kept his true memories of the betrayal hidden in a haze of confusion. But if that girl reached the castle, the mate bond would restore his weak abilities completely. He would remember everything. He would discover the truth behind her treason. Elena turned to her guard, her eyes narrowing into dangerous, serpentine slits. "Assemble our hidden rogues. I don't care what it takes, or how many warriors you have to s*******r. Find that human girl before Killian’s tracking parties do." She smiled coldly, her voice dropping to a deadly, venomous whisper. "And bring me her head."
