Chapter 4 - Victor

1338 Words
~ ONE YEAR LATER~ I walk through the forest as my men cheer. We had another successful mission. It isn't our first, but it nice that they still get excited with each victory that we have. We walk through the entrance of the base. The men banging on the wall as we head to the dining hall. "Kaly meeting hall alone now." I hear an elder yell than walking away. I hear the men oooo. All I do is roll my eyes as I grab a piece of bread. "So what did you do? What rule did you break." I look at Ivan as he laughs with the group. Ivan is the first friend I made when I got here. He actually made the time here easy. " Ha. Ha. They are mostly giving us another mission." I cross my arms. It was weird, though, if it was another mission, then they would have everyone in the team in the meeting hall to tell us all at once. The fact they are calling just me is weird. Ivan is the leader of the team that I'm a part of. He lets me take some lead on things, but in the end, it is his call. I start to head towards the meeting hall as i hear Ivan say, " Whatever," and all I can do is roll my eyes. The first time I met him, he was nothing but childish. On the battlefield he a force I would't want to get in between. That man that is just laughing and playing around with his men can cut through a tree with a battle axe in a single blow. I shut the door behind me and take a seat. For a few minutes, I was them whisper to each other before I clear my throat, saying, " So why am I here?" They all look at me with the head elder just looking sad. "We have noticed an increase of vampiric movement with a lord creating land near one of the big villages. We are sending you there alone and there a chance you won't come back." I just stare at them and now understand the sorrow looks. I lean back in my chair, just stunned. "If you say no, I would understand, but if we dont handle this now, it could get worse." The head elder tells me. I've come to learn that her name is Alla. Like most people here at this base, another person I would't want to come in between. They train their people to be faster and stronger than normal human. They say so it a fair fight. I think they are trying to create something like me without everything in the middle. ."No. I'll do it. I understand and I will try to come back." I tell them standing. They hand me a piece of paper, and I walk off. I can hear one say, " it shame she was actually a good slayer." I walk faster, so I don't hear anymore. I need to get ready for the challenge given to me, and I will make it back that I swear. I head straight to my room. I can hear the men cheering in the dining hall. Maybe they are sending me alone because of my vampiric connections, or maybe it so I can prove I'm ready to be a leader. The elders here have never given me a reason not to trust them. They have actually helped me to sharpen my skills both in combat and verbal. I make my way into my room, opening my tunk and starting packing. I'll start this quickly rather than head home and show I can be a leader. I head to where we keep all our weapons. After every battle, we are to store our weapons here. I start picking up my sword when I hear someone walking up behind me. "My my what my favorite halfy doing with her sword," I hear a deep voice say behind me. I turn fast to see Ivan leaning in the doorway. I breathe, "Ivan, you scared me." I hear him chuckle. "Me? Scare the one person here who can hear a butterfly sneeze. I find that impossible. What on your mind is dulling your senses?" I fasten my sword to my side. "They are sending me on a mission, and I am leaving tonight." He just goes silent and stares at me. "What do you mean you are going on a mission? Alone? I didn't get any paperwork, are you sure? They wouldn't send you alone unless..." I look up at him with a confused look. What does he mean? "Kaly, they wouldn't send you if it wasn't something big or it made them worried. Since you're not human, you're expendable..." At that moment, every one of my senses is just dull. I couldn't hear anything else he was saying. So it is because I'm not human. No matter, I will prove that I'm a great slayer and leader when I come back. "Thanks for everything, Ivan, but I will show them that I am the best that I swear. When I come back, they will make me a leader , and after that, I will be an elder." I stand putting my dagger on my belt, heading to my horse. "Kaly, wait, please think this through..." He pleads with me. I just turn to look at his face, and all I see is worry, and I think sorrow. "Ivan... You are my friend. I have thought about this, and I know why you are worried, but I will be back, and if I dont, then I had a true warrior death. I am proud to call my brother in arms and friends." I walk up to him, and we both do a warrior handshake. Grabbing each other forearms with a stern look on our face, but then he does something I never expected. He pulls me in for a tight hug, holding me almost. "You are like my little sister. Sometimes, I wish you were born at this time or as a human and just live life without worry. I'm happy to have worked with you. You better come back, or I'll kick your ass in the afterlife." We chuckle as I hop onto my horse and start heading northwest. The cold wind was harsh, but I could barely feel it. After a few hours, a castle comes in view. 'God it huge. I am truly screwed.' Is all I can think as I hop off my horse, tying it to a tree, putting a thick blanket on her so she can stay warm out here in the storm. Start making my way towards the castle. Since I am child size, it is easy for me to sneak around and hide. I make my nails turn into claws and start scaling the wall to an open window and climb in. I move around slowly. 'All I need to do is find the head, kill it, and get out,' I thought. I enter the throne room in the shadows where I see a man sitting on a throne reading a book. All I can see is black hair and pale skin. I pull my dagger out and raise it over my head. I watch him pull a little paper out saying, "You're late, Kaly. I expected more from a future queen." I feel a pain in the back of my head with a force that knocks a few feet in front of him. "No. No. No. This won't do. Your mother was a strong and powerful queen as you should, too." I hear him say than there a pinch at my neck. I try to look at him, but then my vision gets blurry. "I, Victor, will not only make you a powerful ruler by your mother last wishes, but I will make you a strong and wise slayer." I hear him say before everything gets black.
