I walked in to be met with 10 men. Most are laughing with a mug in hand. "I was told you had a mission for me," I say, staring daggers at them.
One looked at me and smirked," I thought women are meant to be seen not heard." Most of them started laughing, taking a sip from their mugs. All I want to do is show them what kind of woman I can be. I take a deep breath and fake a smile.
"I was told by Leo that it was urgent. So came as fast as I could." I saw the only man on the elders I can trust stand and walk to me. " Don't mind these boys come let take a walk. The night air is nice tonight." My friend Jackson tells me as he leads me outside with a hand on my back. His family comes from a long line of slayers. He has been in his fair share of battles, which is why he is the only elder I respect.
I breathe as the cool night air hit. Our base is located on an island the locals love to call Érin. The seasons here are always so beautiful. Based on the cool breeze and the leaves starting to change and fall, I know the cold days are coming.
I hear him sigh, " I don't know if the men will make it this month." I look at him with a confuse expression on my face. "What do you mean, Jackson? With the farm we should be fine." He looks down at the ground with a sorrowful look on his face.
"Would think right, but the new elders deem that there was too much money going to taking care of the farm. So the money was cut. Plus, the men aren't even allowed to go to the village without premission from all 10 elders. Only 3 of us out of the 10 were against the idea." I see is red. I punch the nearest tree to me, leaving a gaping hole where I punched.
"My mother didn't create this, so there be abuse of power. She created slayers so humans had a chance against the vampires that wanted to harm them.
He sighs," I know speaking of vampires your mission. It is more of a relocation. There is a base opening far east. We are sending you there because you are our strongest slayer. It will be a different set of elders, but they only take you if we brand your arm with the slayer symbol." I stare at him. "I was born here, and now you just want me to what pack up and go..."
I can feel myself tearing up. For 600 years, this is the place where I was raised. All my memories are in this one place. "I know that look. There is a vampire clan that is growing out there. We, as slayers, need to make sure that they stay in check." He tells me. I pull myself together. This is my life what I've done for a long time now.
"Where is the place?" I slowly look up at the moon just trying to collect my thoughts. "The natives call it the state of Rus, but there is no name we can really find." I look at him fast. I knew my father was part of the vampire council. A council made up of one vampire from each type of vampire. Each one of them rule over some land. I know the place they are sending me is ruled by a vampire named Dracula. Last I heard, he was slowly losing his mind. I don't know how this king would react to me being there. The daughter of the former Leon king. I take a deep breath and look at him. "Ok, when do I go?"
He pats me on the back, " I know how you might feel, but you're doing this for the greater good. You leave tomorrow. So pack a small bag and say your goodbyes to Leonardo." I wore a look of confusion like I wore the clothes on my back. "He not coming with me? I'm his maker he goes where I go." All I could feel is betrayal. This man who I thought I could trust just showed his true colors. All the elders had to agree to this, but not only that. I made Leo it like a mother son bond. A bond that is sacred between vampires. One that most vampires respected.
He sighs, " Don't make this harder than it already is. We can't lose both our best slayers. Thinks of is as a sacrifice for the greater good." I faked a smile and nod than head to my bed, opening my trunk as I fill my sack up. I hear someone approach. I look to see Leo walking up to me. "I know this day is hard for you, but you look like you were stabbed." I sigh, "Leo, please sit."
I lead him to my bed and have him sit. "They are sending me to a base in the east. I know you know nothing of the vampire society, but I must say this." I slowly take his hand and hold it." I, Kaly Nora Leon, release you as your maker to be your vampire." I feel a surge of pain. It is not because breaking the bond is painful, but because he doesn't really know anything of this vampiric life, and now I'm sending him head first into this unknown world.
"I don't understand." I hold back tears as i look at him. "I know. They aren't letting you come with me. This hurts so much for me. I thought I had so much time with you, but the gods have shown that it is not true. I'm leaving tomorrow. I would like for our last time together, which is happy memories and not us fighting." I watch him nod and then help me pack, not saying a word. I expected that. I wouldn't want to talk to me either after hearing and seeing what I've done. We send the night doing things I haven't done in a long time. Just take time to ourselves and explore the near village. I'm just enjoying the little time we have left.
I woke up the next day hoping that yesterday was just a nightmare, but I know it is not, and I must get up and leave my home behind. I get up and get dress. I take my red hair and braid it. I hold back my tears as I stare at myself in the mirror. I have my mother hazel eyes and my father red hair. I always hate looking at myself. When I do, all I can see is my parents. I make my way to the horse, attaching my sack to it, getting it ready for the journey ahead of me. I looked over my shoulder to look at the place where I once called my home. I get on the horse and start heading towards my new home.
