1317 Words

Chapter 17 L ike a sudden mountain storm, a Hughes 500 chopper followed by two military green Chinooks shattered the peace of the wilderness. The Chinooks had been loaded with a company of wilderness-trained rangers and support troops from Fort Lewis. The smaller and faster Hughes 500 had come to pick up Brush. It would enable them to have a fast helicopter if they needed it in their pursuit of Nusmen. Heather looked at Brush. He smiled at her but didn’t receive a smile in return. Debbie, Simon, Gwen, and Ben stood transfixed as the choppers landed on the edge of the meadow. Ben’s mouth hung open as nearly sixty camouflaged soldiers assembled. Duane and Roy were about a mile away just coming into the meadow when the choppers thumped overhead. ‘Can’t land in the wilderness,’ said Roy.
